Yesterday, when installing a new NAPA Gold / Wix filter on my Neon to do an engine flush I heard a pop then hiss. I lost 2 quarts of oil in the process. What a mess. The filter was hand tightened, but was not tight after the leak. I tried to tighten the filter, but the threads were stripped. Anyway, after cleaning up the oil and putting on another NAPA Gold 1348 filter and more oil / flush. I ran the engine for 15 minutes with no problems. I was wondering if I had just not tightened the filter.. Today, as I was coming out of a store a lady had a large pool of oil under her car. Another guy and I checked and the filter was stripped out. It was a NAPA silver. Is anyone else seeing this ?

Nope. I had a Wix on my Neon for 3K miles. No leakage. I only hand tighten. I placed a Napa Gold on this weekend. I haven't seen any leaks yet. The first PureOne I used was very hard to get threaded. That's why I switched to Wix.

I'll bet that if you looked at the original, removed, old filter gasket afterwards, it was probably missing. Sounds like you had two gaskets on the NAPA when it popped & hissed. When I used NAPA thru bulk purchases, I had two instances where the gasket stayed attached to the engine upon removal on different vehicles.

Overall a very good filter - great supplier in fleetfilter.com... just got turned off by NAPA the company - who failed to follow-thru with their rebate promotions.

Triple Se7en bets right. Went out and dug through the trash. Pulled out all 3 filters and original filter was missing a gasket so must have had two gaskets as you bet. I also really like doing business with Fleetfilter. They even had my air filter although it was not listed. I feel much better knowing what to watch out for. Have been changing filters for many years and never had this happen on a spin on. Old Chevy bucket type filters were famous for people taking to the garage with two gaskets. Use to have to pullout the first gasket with a dental pick on those...

Been using Napa Gold filters for a bit now on 2 vehicles, and a lawn tractor, haven't had an issue.

Next weekend one will also get installed on our new Toyota

I also said "never" until October when I left a 30 foot long streak of new oil in my driveway. Lost exactly two quarts before I saw the streak. Took about 15 old bathroom towels I kept in the garage for this rainy-oily day to scoop it up. Most of it got absorbed right away & two months later only see a very faint streak that's leftover.

What was nice was removing the filter that was compressed against the old gasket & just re-oiling it & reinstalling it with no leaks.
