I don't think its needed. But if you want to clean it out auto rx it

With 54k miles, I would just change the oil and keep driving...

But flush is fun if you have some decent oil at clearance price.
why are you using this thick oil? is the most important question:
the most important problem with oil is that it is TOO THICK. Even Dr. Haas will not use a 10w40 in his racing Ferrari: and he lives in hot Florida.
you definitely do not need to flush, but if you want your engine to be happy, then use a synthetic 5w30, it will thank you many times over:

and if you want to make your engine think it's in piston and ring heaven, then use a 0w30 synthetic.
remember, the thicker the oil, the higher the viscosity, and the lower the flow. low flow = bad.

When I did mine I just changed over to synthetic and allowed it to slowly clean it out.
