Is All New Furniture Junk Anymore ?

I bought my furniture from Henredon and Bernhardt brands and it is still in beautiful condition 20 years later.

Most young couples only have enough disposable income to just buy the junk imported furniture. We have found some really nice furniture at moving and Estate sales.

Right, and that is because this nation is in steep decline and has been ongoing for the past several decades. Furniture used to be built to last for generations and home appliances were built to last for 20 years. And it was all made here.

Buy used. My wife and I have different styles but we both agree on mid century modern. You can find some good furniture, but you will pay dearly for it. If you live near an Amish/Mennonite area, there are some furniture builders who will sell direct to the consumer. Most of their stuff is mission-style oak. I’ll also note that the Heywood-Wakefield company has been restarted and they make their old mid century furniture out of solid birch… if you’ve got the $$$. …or you could get lucky like me and find a H-W dresser being given away for free. 😂

Yes today it's hard to find good furniture. Much of the stuff in my house was made here in West Virginia by Tom Seely furniture company. Not cheap but lasts forever. I had a custom 3x5 breakfast nook oak table with a side drawer and 4 chairs made back in 2004. Looks like the day it was delivered and is used every day. Here is the stamp that is located somewhere on every piece, in this case the bottom of one of the chairs.

Our kitchen has amish made cabinets in it and they are strong and beautiful. A friend of mine had is done by them and they are beautiful too. His workshop uses steam motor and overhead shafts and pulley for the equipment. He has no electricity. Doesn't drive or own a truck. He hires his neighbor to drive him around and if you want special wood you must pick him up and go get it yourself. The cabinets all fit like a glove and the finish is excellent. He designed them and installed them for less than $3500. That's a bargain.
