IRAQ, by Dennis Miller

All the rhetoric on whether or not we should go
to war against Iraq has got my insane little brain
spinning like a roulette wheel. I enjoy reading
opinions from both sides, but I have detected a hint
of confusion from some of you. As I was reading the
paper recently, I was reminded of the best advice
someone ever gave me. He told me about the KISS method
("Keep it Simple, Stupid"). So, with this as a theme,
I'd like to apply this theory for those who don't
quite get it. My hope is that we can simplify things a
bit and recognize a few important facts.

Here are 9 things to consider when voicing an opinion
on this important issue:

1) President Bush and Saddam Hussein.....Hussein is
the bad guy.

2) If you have faith in the United Nations to do the
right thing, keep this in mind. They have Libya
heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq
heading the Global Disarmament Committee. Do your
own math here.

3) If you use Google Search and type in "French
Military Victories," your reply will be "Did you mean
French Military Defeats?"

4) If your only anti-war slogan is "No war for oil,"
sue your school district for allowing you to slip
through the cracks and robbing you of the education
you deserve.

5) Saddam and Bin Laden will not seek United Nations
approval before they try to kill us.

6) Despite what some seem to believe, Martin Sheen
is NOT the President. He plays one on T.V.

7) Even if you are anti-war, you are still an
"Infidel" and Bin Laden wants you dead, too.

8) If you believe in a "vast right-wing conspiracy,"
but not in the danger that Hussein poses, quit hanging
out with the Dell computer dude.

9) Whether you are for military action, or against
it, our young men and women overseas are fighting for
us to defend our right to speak out. We all need to
support them without reservation.

I hope this helps.

At least something on the "list" is relevent.

Dennis can be amusing, but I thought people here didn't like entertainers spouting off about politics. Or does that just mean the ones who spout against the current government?

Don't get all mad, I'm just yanking your chains. I don't care who spouts what, it's a free country, for the moment.

I guess some of you guys didn't get to the end of the thread, it wasn't Dennis Miller

However, it's a pretty good rant!

I am highly disappointed with your post.

As an administrator, people look at your posts and give them more weight than the general public. You (unintentionally) used this power to promote somthing that is untrue and (as you first reply indicates) the lie won't stop on this thread. Please research these types of posts before sharing lies with the forum. http://truthminers.com/truth/patriotism.htm#dennis

Truthminers is a good site (the one I use most), but sometimes falls behind (only one woman making the site). Snopes is good. Hoaxbusters is a good site. Or you can do a google search. Thanks for your consideration.

I know you were yanking!

I like to yank sometimes, no harm intended, and I agree.
I got annoyed last night at church a bit. I don't like church services to become lectures on politics, but what can you do?

I really like Dennis Miller as a comedian, but sadly, since 911 he has come to represent the fear driven American. He is by his own admission a "shrieking coward" (his own words) and he seems to prove it more every day. If you live your life in the fear that someone wants to kill you, you may as well be dead already IMHO. If you let that drive your thoughts, terror has already won. During the cold war, the entire Soviet nuclear arsneal was pointed at the west and total destruction was only a push of a button and 40 minutes away, yet strangely the fear was no where close to where it is today. People have always wanted to kill, always will, live with it. If a 300 billion/year military cannot gurantee safety, how the heck can a 500 billion/year military. This madness has gotta stop. BTW Dennis, Saddam and Osama are two seperate people with vastly differing ideologies, they have nothing to do with each other!!!

While Saddam and Bin Laden are two seperate people,we do know that there were terrorist training camps in Iraq.

I think the adage of "An enemy of MY enemy is MY friend" applies here.

3 points

1 The fear level was high. Maybe you weren't around in the 50's when some people actually build bomb shelters and stocked them with supplies.

2 There were relatively rational people in the Kremlin. MAD worked. They never achieved first strike capablity.

3 The Soviets never killed 3,000 Americans in one day, mostly civilians including women and children.

I beleive it was Shakespeare that wrote "Cowards die many times before their deaths. Tha valiant never taste of death but once." - Julius Ceaser

1, yeah but we got over it.

2. The Kremlin was actually more rational then the Whitehouse. The notion of "first strike" capability is a highly theortical one and beyond the understanding of the layman. If MAD worked against the Soviets, I don't understand how it cannot work against NKorea or Saddam.

3. Three thousand people, as tragic as it is, is a drop in the bucket compared to how many people die on the roads each year, yet no one hesitates to get behind the wheel or drive around with their kids. The fear of dying in a terrorist strike is not a rational one, the probability is sooooooo miniscule, my last thoughts if it happended to me would be that I was ****** off that I didn't win the lotto instead.
