IPAD A16 issue

Brand new iPad won’t text or can’t send text to friends with android. Don’t see option to send as SMS message like my iPhone has. Any ideas?
From what I understand you cant send a text directly to Android on iPad. It needs to be paired with an iPhone and on the iPhone "text messaging forwarding enabled".
I dont know anything about it but found this on apple.

Good luck, Happy Thanksgiving!

The native iPad messaging is iMessage, over WiFi, but you can set it up to text and message through your phone and that phone number.

I text all the time from my iPad - my son has an Android - so, it’s not about the iPad, it’s about how yours is set up.

Enable the pairing/forwarding with your iPhone, and use the iPad to text anyone.

If your iPad includes cellular service, you can txt. If you’re using Wi-Fi I believe you can only test over iMessage which only connects with other iPads and iPhones.

You need to setup “Text message forwarding” under settings (search) on your iPhone to include your new iPad as allowed to use it. Once working it will use your iPhone to send and receive SMS messages .

Yes. Did this yesterday. Fixed the issue. Thank You all for help 😍😍👍

But you need an iPhone to do so. Without an iPhone, you can’t txt anyone other than iMessage users.
Unless your iPad has cell unit and cell service.
It kind of makes sense if you think about it. Without a cell unit (or connected iPhone) the iPad is a Wi-Fi device.

This isnt a solution but you can message anyone who has the same app installed. Meaning messaging apps are cross platform in the android and apple stores. Viber is a good one plus another half dozen other good ones.

Which is exactly what I said above.
(you are correct, I am wrong on this even if the iPad has its own cell service and the iPad can be used without an iPhone on the internet, you still can not text with the iPad to Android)

I was also clarifying you can still use a cross platform messaging app.
