What’s quite interesting and really cool about that plant is it’s BMW‘s largest plant in the worldThere are tariffs on many goods now and have been for years / ever. The entire reason for the BMW plant in South Carolina is to get around the chicken tax / tariff.
Spot on. BMW puts a lot of Americans to work which supports the local community and beyond. They export 60% of the cars they build in South Carolina and China is their biggest customer.
It’s kind of cool seeing a success story like this even if it’s not an American company.
Not only that but a significant percentage of workers are associated with those manufacturing plants whom work for other companies that supply the parts to the automotive builders like BMW.Spot on. BMW puts a lot of Americans to work which supports the local community and beyond.
Just like Toyota, Honda, etc.
Supporting the American worker is a high priority to me.
I didn’t make it in time. I talked to the store manager and they had orders to clear out a goodly amount of US booze and sent it back to the warehouse. Here is an actual pic of of some signs on the shelves. The JD and Jim Beam is sitting back at the warehouse. I’m not trying to get a reaction, just try to give folks the pulse up here. Also, in British Columbia, booze from Blue States is welcome. Still a good selection of California and Washington wines. Don’t shoot the messenger.I’ll be helping by going down to the liquor store tomorrow to help clean out the last of the Jim Beam and JD. After that. No more.![]()

Sounds like something a video gamer came up with. Go looking ("mining") for some elusive money in the digital world and maybe rewarded, lol.Bitcoin conceptually is stored in a "block-chain", which is a digital ledger propagated many times across various bitcoin servers. The Servers are the bitcoin "miners". Every so often the algorithm passes out another coin and that goes to a miner - some of it random, but the more effort you put into "mining" the more likely you are to getting a coin. My understanding is there will only ever be 21M bitcoins, and were a few years away.
See the quantum physics thread.Sounds like something a video gamer came up with. Go looking ("mining") for some elusive money in the digital world and maybe rewarded, lol.
All the power to them. I salute Canadians right to drink what they want, and reject what they want. Of course the USA can do exactly the same. I would say doing some calculus north of the border would prove beneficial. Try to figure out how it will ultimately work out for them. Good Luck!I didn’t make it in time. I am deciding traveling from Port Aux Basques all the way around (9+ hours) to St. Johns, OR, I could take the longer ferry to Argentia-Placentia port for a short drive (1.5 hr) to St. Johns. I am leaning for the longer drive to see more of Newfoundland.i am actually going back in October. first, i have a trip to New England this week, then i go to Newfoundland island. but i am not going in the St-Johns area. i go to Port Aux Basques and i come back from Port Aux basques.
Where is the original long one?I guess we can say goodbye to this investor thread![]()

Spot on, again. When NUMMI closed, the local economy was hit hard. People lost homes, restaurants and the like lost business. Again, that was a key reason wifey and I bought the '18 Model 3 Mid Range. Not only that but a significant percentage of workers are associated with those manufacturing plants whom work for other companies that supply the parts to the automotive builders like BMW.
For example, let’s say the door panels. Those are made by a secondary company that delivers that panel for that specific car at the assembly line the very minute that it arrives at that point on the line.
Every BMW car is built to order.
Does that mean I have to pay income tax again? How depressing.both canada and mexico tariffs paused for 30 days. I bet the China one will stay. Today was my favorite Shakespeare play, Much ado aboot nothing.
