Some of this is self-inflicted.
Allow me to inject my 66+ years of dealing with clown world. MOST (not all) is self inflicted. I don't blame the children, the truly disabled, battered women, all the elderly - but when you see 1000+ people homeless camps with husky able bodied men, yes sloth, abusing the multi million $ homeless industry, predatory drug system, etc. Point is, the problem will be cut back severely with very tough love and the fear of starving or freezing to death. I think we learned free stuff solves nothing.

I bought a car for my niece (not new), refied a mortgage and paid down the principal (helping my niece and kids) and a condo (for an old friend to live in).
So I did my part in support of the 2024 year end number.
I think it important to point out that you did all that stuff for other people, not for yourself. You didn’t get the new car, you don’t live in the Condo, and you don’t live in the refi property.

You’re a good man, Jeff!

Still doesn't mean everyone is doing well--appearances can be deceiving. How many are driving on bald Chinese tires? putting off necessary repairs to house or car?
This is life. People are in charge of their own life unless they want to be "wards of the state"
We are a free people, no guarantees except to say no one and I mean no one goes hungry or without healthcare in the USA. Life has never been more easy in the history of mankind. I mean, what more do we want or can we give to others who fail in life?
Gosh, I mean, think about it. :)

The fact that we have "so much welfare" must tell us something. One could argue that it's not working, that this welfare state isn't fixing the problem--but that then proves there is a problem.
There is no problem to fix. Humans will fail, nothing can fix that. Im not so sure why people think they can be fixed.
As a country we give all the tools to not starve, to have health care and earn a living. If you cant do it, you fail. Nothing to fix. It is the easiest place on earth to live right here in the USA. Why do you think people are breaking down our borders? *LOL*

Astro, I appreciate the kind words.
All I can tell you is, it's better to be able to give a little than to need a little.
Plus, my wife told me, in no uncertain terms, "You have family. You take care of them."
What's a poor boy to do? Ha!

$2M is my goal. I wouldn't mind a little more run up! Thinking a new fancyish car would make a nice retirement gift to myself (coming next year).

Congratulations on a job well done !!!

Lots of middle aged folks need to get serious about their retirement investing and planning.
I speak to lots of people and they don’t seem too concerned about their financial futures and retirement.

Silicon Valley workers have proven to be no exception. There were so many drop dead gorgeous German cars in the parking lot... I drove Toyletta strippie 4 banger pickups. Well, my house has been paid off for years now, and my savings are good.
"I'll save for my future when I'm older..." They sure looked nice in their Macys and Nordy clothes and expensive hair cuts.
Now they are moving out of the area...
I have another friend who has a nice, smaller condo. He owes way more on it than the original cost. He cannot retire and he's in his lower 70's. And his folks made the down payment for him...
I just don't get it.

Crypto, going crazy. Just like the stock market wow.
Bitcoin breaks $100,000 maybe in five years 1 million isn’t out of the question who knows. I hope so!

XRP I have a fair amount of sitting on hard drive on a computer that I haven’t thrown away. It’s getting time to dust it off. Hopefully the price holds up as my coins are now worth about 500% more.😒 then again maybe I should let it roll for another 10 years. i’m not in panic mode yet, but I hope I remember how to get it off the hard drive.😂😂

It’s a loss I can afford if it goes back down to near zero which is what I bought it at a long time ago.

I’m seriously thinking of investing in more or an index fund or maybe something I can get into my Roth. Maybe even just Coinbase I don’t know.
For fun I would probably like to pick up some Doge maybe
Sad part is everything has run up so much but maybe that’s a good thing who knows ha ha ha

I almost feel like shorting bitcoin or some surrogate. I agree with the trend and masses, but some point it is just INSANE and will back off.

The usual problem: WHEN! :D

Yeah, I agree, much like some stocks. Speculation. Long term though, it's building a track record. I can see the short term.
We all know however, trading in speculation, up or down can be risky.
As you know I have been listening to people trash these coins before even Coinbase existed or at its very roots. You use to have to use overseas exchanges to buy and sell some coins, ons of those was Ripple/XRP, it was hair-raising at the time*LOL*. It was so long ago I forgot how I did it.
SO what is it? up or down, I got used to the swings I dont disagree with you or will this prove the promoters to be true, bitcoin at 1 million some day in the next 5 years? I would by a yacht if XRP ever hit 1000. Not that I expect it to. Unlike bitcoin, XRP has no limit to what can be mined if I remember correctly.

Still, I have some cash sadly sitting on the side, not too much but considering some "coin" in my Roth. I consider a lot of things all the time, it this mornings thoughts.

I agree with your sentiment, but Bitcoin is purely a play on global liquidity, and there is lots of liquidity in the system. If you are going to do anything with Bitcoin - long or short - I recommend go listen the last 10 interviews done by Lyn Alden first.

Back up that hard drive! I've had several hard discs crap out over the years. It's no joke.

Yes, I fully intend to get them off there and into Coinbase so I don’t have to think about it
It’s been a complicated almost 2 years with a move to a new home and other things going on
I’ll freak out if the computer doesn’t start, but I think I tried it less than two years ago. I’m sure it doesn’t help sitting on the garage floor though.🤔

Pertinent portion of today's BLS payroll report:

"The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for September was revised up by 32,000, from+223,000 to +255,000, and the change for October was revised up by 24,000, from +12,000 to +36,000.With these revisions, employment in September and October combined is 56,000 higher than previously reported. (Monthly revisions result from additional reports received from businesses and government agencies since the last published estimates and from the recalculation of seasonal factors.)"
