From the WaPo:
The U.S. economy grew at a surprisingly robust 2.8 percent annualized rate in the second quarter, capping two years of solid expansion, despite some signs of softening.

“Economic growth is solid, not too hot and not too cold,” said Chris Rupkey, chief economist at Fwdbonds, a financial research firm. “The soft patch we had at the beginning of the year has gone away, and with it, the risks of a recession are dying on the vine.”

This is the very definition of a soft landing. Remarkable.

What would GDP is the USA wasn’t supporting 2 wars ?

I’m not being political….
Probably wouldn't change much.

Yes were sending things to the Ukraine - but a lot of that stuff was cold war relics that existed from previous times. If we didn't use it in Afghanistan or Iraq, we probably weren't going to use it.

I assume the other one your refering to is in the middle East. I think most of that has to do with air craft carriers that would be steaming around somewhere either way?

No doubt the military contractors will get re-fill contracts at some point, but I doubt that has had much affect yet.

IMHO - just guessing. Presumably you could go here and try to figure out which category is military type stuff and compare today from a few years back. I am too lazy. https://www.bea.gov/data/gdp/gross-domestic-product

Your big GDP multiplier is from government spending on social programs. 7% deficit leads to 2.7% GDP growth. Sounds like a really lousy investment to me.

I just sold some covered calls on AMD.

For those of you holding AMD (nobody probably) - the premiums are fantastic. I was stunned.

May be worth it for folks wanting to try options for the first time - just look and learn.

This was as of around 6:45AM Pacific

And the shares (~$138) were up $6 today too. If it's called away Aug 23, @$155 fine and if not I made an extra $1000 with very little risk.

A hope and prayer after getting a little beat up last few days.
I’m 50/50 on premarket stuff but at least it looks pretty right now.
I hate tech stocks but now hold two, feel like dumping it but I use and believe in this one, just like I do WMT. Will see… I’m not big on NVDA but holding for now yet my brain says sell it.

CNN reporting tech companies have not realized gains from AI investments. Nobody saw that coming.
Nor did CNN!
Might be a good time to jump in... if you got the guts that is. (not you personally) I hate tech stocks but it's summer time ... and well, we know how that goes for the market in general. Like right this moment. :)

My VIX long that I bought in January, which at one point had halved, is now above water. This is not normal, even for the VIX. 0DTE anyone? Crazy.

I am accumulating a list of bottom feeders. I won't catch a falling knife but I may buy a basket of them on the way up. INTC is now on that list - maybe at the top. BA and F are too.

I also wish I had bought longer dated treasuries. Oh well.

Whatever I have here. Still have fresh tomatoes, bacon and an ear of sweet corn. Of course I have some canned soups and stuff. I will not starve.

Street is completely dug up for a new sewer line. Nobody gets in or out except by foot. Everybody on this block had to park a block away and walk to their cars. There is a huge pile of dirt in my front yard. Hope they do a respectful job of cleaning it up when done.

See that's what you get for not posting pictures of your own food.

Do you need a Berlin air drop?
