Apple is a huge entity. Don’t think of it as the iPhone company. I think they make a billion a day just on services alone. Health and Fitness, Bank, Real Estate, plus their information and computer stuff.
Let’s not forget about the “game changing”electric car that’s going to come out ….

… as you pointed out their other revenue streams, compare this to the lofty valuations of other companies and Apple looks like a bargain with a PE of 24

I not sure what they are doing with that electric car. Maybe they are working on a transporter? Wouldn’t that freak out the markets?

A lot of their products are announced and slowly gain share. ApplePay is one. Apple Fitness is another.

Several months ago my iPhone notified me that I was in danger of a fall due to walking unsteadiness. Now that was a freaky moment but it spurred me to increase my walking exercise plus some other exercise regimens that Apple recommended. The result, my walking unsteadiness has improved. I appreciated that not only did they tell me of this but gave me guidance to improve the condition. How many seniors has this helped besides me? A fall becomes serious when you get to a certain age.

Great story, I have one too.
Yeah, I remember Apple Pay, even when a supermarket like Publix didn't accept it. Like you said, slowly gains share.
I was paying in the store just a couple weeks ago and to my surprise a younger guy, maybe in his 30s was amazed when he saw me pay for my groceries with my watch.
and wow, I get the Health App, together with the watch I have been using the watch with my iPhone mainly as a health device. Too much to type tonight, but the watch uncovered enough heartbeat irregularities, that using that information I printed out dozens of pages of the watch ECGs and showed them to my cardiologist who had me come in because earlier I messaged him a few pages of ECGs and they were concerning enough that they had me wear their own monitoring equipment for 48 hours and it confirmed what the watch showed.
From there, he then had me see an Cardio electro physicist who prescribed a drug which corrected it but I am going to go with the optional ablation procedure because I don't want to take pills if I don't have too, the pills are serious anti arrhythmia stuff and I have had so many tests in the last year, like just about ever heart test, good news is my heart is in great shape, just a minor electrical issue and the watch uncovered it early so there is zero heart damage right now. I want to keep it the way...
Anyway, I hope Apple keeps up the good work, yes, I also go to a gym twice a week for an high intensity workout at Orange Theory, I also use the watch to track my own exercise when not at the gym , walking, working out at home ect.

So far I have beat the dreaded family history for the males in my family tree and the iPhone and watch combo makes it even more fun and I can now tell you or anyone, my TWO cardiologists, unsolicited, LOVED the dozens of pages of ECGs I print out, anytime I felt any type of odd thing in my chest I simple hit the ECG button and the watch records it and send it to my phone to print, email, message, anything.

I get the alerts like you got too, my was for low heart rates, including time of night and duration while I was sleeping.
Its not a cure all for everything but it is one heck of an aid.
They do save peoples lives and I KNOW it helped me prevent damage to my heart because I was able to bring documentation in the form of ECGs. You see, on the surface all my numbers were great, heart function, lipids ect.

Lets not forget if your concerned about falls as it has fall detection, some might think its just for old people, but what about people who hike on their own? or other solo things?

Im not sure why I don't invest in them... sometimes I wonder where can they go next ... and then they go there, where no one thought. I think.

Apple is an incredible company. They are a go big or go home company. Their EV will be a game changer.
Regarding the iPhone, if you check the revenue numbers, it is their most valuable product and generates more than half their revenue.

I remember years ago, before the WinTel boom, a story on 60 Minutes where an Apple II computer was hooked up to a young man who was paralyzed; someone wrote code that stimulated his nerves and whatever and he walked for the 1st time.

I was blown away and will never forget it. Apple is an amazing company. If you come to Silicon Valley, go visit the Space Ship. It is located a few block from my parents home in what used to be a cherry orchard.

There is some really amazing stuff coming out of Apple here in the future. Their Fitness + program is a big hit and they have added more programs to fit everyone.

The next iteration of the Watch is supposed to have blood oxygen monitoring. I haven’t kept up on that lately. Also, there are rumors that they will include health monitoring featuring in the next version of the AirPods. These also have some hearing aid functions already.

They are doing great research on Parkinson’s and epilepsy including seizure notifications and tracking.

Yours is another great story. I’m glad it worked out for you.

I think the blood oxygen thing is here.

It is pretty great. Got my father one because of the monitoring.

Yes, O2 monitoring is automatic and stored in your phone, also heart rate, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, cardio fitness, walking rate, low heart rate notifications, cardio fitness notifications, A Fib notifications.
The ECG/EKG you do manually by opening the app and keeping your finger on the stem of the watch.
All this stuff is stored and can be accessed by time, date, can be viewed by day, week, month, 6 month and 1 year graphs.

BTW - I love this stuff, its instrumentation for your heart, just like I used to install gauges to monitor my 1967 GTO Factory H/O engine (or something like that) and just like now, one of the few people to have a digital oil temp gauge on my Harley Road king.
The Apple Watch is the same thing, only for a device that has only one life and cant repair itself nor anyone else if the muscle gets damaged. SO I get to monitor my heart as a fun thing (when everything goes well *LOL*) and if not, I can address it before something bad happens, no different then low oil pressure or temperature on and engine.

I read in some financial publication, forgot which one that I get at my house. That APPLE is involved with a company that is working on ground breaking technology that will give blood pressure readings without using a cuff. As always with Apple, pure speculation if it will ever come about, but that would be ground breaking if it happens and is placed on or in the watch. Cuffless BP measurements, that would be a game changer in the entire medical industry, it will happen at some point in time, I wonder who will win the race though.

(trying to keep this thread to investing which some of this maybe one day Ill post something about its abilities in the electronics section and stop posting here)

This is all part and parcel of investing though as we watch companies evolve. So many companies never evolved and that is a long list.

A few years ago I read that Apple was researching tech that would read blood glucose levels without pricking and getting blood samples. Even now, a CGM still requires something to get access to the blood. This would be huge. Imagine a Apple Watch that gave you constant readings and notifications?

You just convinced me to get the Apple Watch. I was not aware of all of these features and used to think the watch was just an extension of the iPhone so no need for me to be like **** Tracey.

On a side note, a family friend (biomedical engineer) is working with VCs regarding integration of EEG sensing in ear buds for mind activated control. This was mentioned earlier in the thread but the friend couldn't go into details. Would be interesting if he is somehow involved with Apple but I'm sure he's not the only guy to have thought of this idea.

Wow. I have learnt so much from @PimTac and @alarmguy in this thread. Amazing stuff. I had to ask my wife (she's the smart one) if she knew about the Apple watch functionality; she did.
I sad, "Wow, this is gonna put Doctors outta business. Did you know it knows your gait and if you are gonna fall?"
Sue said, "It has a gyroscope."
"Can it pick you up if you fall down?"
"No, but it can call someone."

Sheesh. I love Steve Jobs' company. And proud of Silicon Valley and her innovation.

I was telling a new hire at my job to watch very old YouTube videos of Steve Jobs and listen VERY closely to what he says. You can sense the innovation and hunger from within.

Do Not listen to the dumb MBAs at this company that can NOT run a lemonade stand, just mumble corporate buzz words every 5 seconds.

I also told this person not to waste money on a BS degree from a school and people that have zero real world work experience and only teach from an old economics book.

I was lucky to get with a lightning fast rising company (Semiconductor Mfg Equipment) that needed a hired gun to code custom business solutions for the exec staff. Beyond ERP and canned software. I was asked, no. I was told to work with them... Let's just say it worked out and they were very good to me.

You can run with the pack if you want, but that's no fun. Go big or go home.

Its unbelievable all the health functions of the watch Jeff.
I still learn and I am sure you maybe have seen many of my posts, my two cardiologists praised the ECG recordings that I provided. It actually led to a faster more timely investigation as to what was happening but look at it like this, its a tool for the doctors to see what is going on, it provides data that can match up the words coming from your mouth.
Yes, it has fall detection, it has low heart rate detection, it has high heart rate detection, it has A Fib detection, and a lot more.
Below are three ECGs, just a tiny sample of what I provided to my doctors. You can see the first one normal look at the mess of the 2nd and 3rd ones. Again, tiny sample out of hundreds that I did an ECG whenever I felt something unusual going on in my chest.
IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO PLAY DOCTOR BUT GIVE THE INFORMATION TO THE DOCTOR jsut like one would vocalize what they were feeling, this is a print out for the doctor to figure out.
This is after I spoke with my doctor, again, a tiny fraction of my 500 ECGs
This is what I see as normal =

Screen Shot 2022-07-15 at 11.30.04 AM.png

Woke me up at night = (PVCs as told by my DR)
Screen Shot 2022-07-15 at 11.30.25 AM.png

This one used to scare me a little in the way my chest felt = (I never confirmed with my DR what they were but I think PACs.

Screen Shot 2022-07-15 at 11.40.55 AM.png

Its important to know that the much more serious VT (VTACH) ect will not be caught on the watch unless you specifically were doing an ECG at the perfect moment. and why ALWAYS important if you ever feel anything in your chest to see your DR or go to the emergency room. What I posted is nothing more than an aid for the doctor.
IT does not indicate a heart attack which the watch warns you. My DR also warned me, go to the emergency room.

One last one, screen shots from my watch one morning (and not the only time) when I was looking to see what time it was when I woke up, I had no idea anything was going on while I slept that night, you would then go to the iPhone they are all stored in my iPhone by date, time, week, month and year. Keep in mind I was able to send the ECGs and data to my cardiologist through their messaging app for them to see if I should come in. I love technology and instrumentation, the watch is instrumentation for your heart, just like the car display is instrumentation for your TESLA.
