Introduction and Oil Question

I've been ghosting this forum for probably 5-9 months now and must say this is by far the best collection of oil analyists ever. So I finally decided to join and ask a question. Im going to probably be shunned for this but im going to ask regardless.

I cant understand used oil analysis or the technical breakdown of oil yet, as im only 17 and im trying my hardest to understand what all of it means i've done my research into additives and im proud to say that nothing goes though my oil except Auto-RX which i've run in 2 cars now. My fuel only gets treated with Redline SI-1 and\or Chevron Techron Concentrate.

But for my general oil im confused. The 3 immediate brands that are available for me are Mobil 1 SuperSyn, Redline, and Royal Purple. I want the best oil available for my Sentra (Equiped with a QR25DE). I've seen the other thread by a Sentra owner swearing on the Mobil but this car see's constant redline and hard driving on the track. And easy driving on the roads. I want a very performance oriented oil. I've used both Redline and currently im running Royal Purple. 5w30.

I live in South-Eastern pennsylvania and temperatures range from 0 in winter to 85 in summer on average.

I want a very performance oriented oil so help me make a selection in viscosity and brand. Much appreciated. Engmus

There are some good used oil analyses with one quart Redline mixed with the rest Mobil 1.

I am using Schaeffers (site sponsor) Neutra #131 fuel system treatment.

Sorry, not much input, no time. But probably straight Redline is overkill unless you always drive it like you stole it.

Vspec, I am not brilliant and started in oil analysis at your age while I was serving in the USN, I will still try a stab at helping.

What do your oil analysis results show using the redline and royal purple oils ?

Thats where to start. Many will read all the good data here and compare to their engines and NEVER take a analysis. sadly they never REALLY know whats shakin' in that specific engine driven by them in their specific environment. used oil analysis really take lots of guess work out of the equation.

In that engine RL or RP are excellent oils. Run the lowest vis you can and still provide plenty of wear control. M1 is a great oil and with the newer formulation they are addressing EP and extended drain issues that put the M1 line back in the HP game.
Consider use of FP60 by Lubcontrol for the fuel add.

Well I would get a oil analysis but money is tight due to age. Also RP or the other fuel additives here I would use but cant find locally so until I get a better paying job im limited to whats at advanced auto. =[

I'll probably just go with Redline or Royal Purple.

I always change my oil at 3,000 oci with Purolator Pure One engine filters.

I feel your pain V ! Money is always tight no matter how old you are . It boils down to priorities.

In this case save up for a oil analysis kit and get it properly interpreted. Heres how;

In the meantime you are wasting money on higher end oils for 3000 mile drains. Either take your drains longer with the high end syns OR switch to a 5w30 SM/GF4 oil like ConocoPhillips line of blended oils with that Pure One. There are other brands I see work well in that engine but that is a start for you.
With the money you are saving order some LC/FP60 and a oil analysis kit and we can get you tuned.

I have taken RP 5w30 in that engine 10,000 mile drains using analysis to guide and ensure a safe drain interval.

Well I would suggest that if you can afford a Spec and can aford to race it....you can't afford not to know how it is holding up..and a 25 dollar oil analysis is well worth the money.

Terry is correct in saying,per $$$ which we all suffer, Phillips 66, trop-artic/Conoco group makes a very fine lube,the Pure one filter ,only a couple of $$$ less than others,is again very good,,you would be wasting money on Redline etc,at change outs at 3,000 change outs,stay with Phillips,or Chevron/Havoline make a good product for your use,,,BL

If you're really that broke, $12 will get you a used oil analysis from site sponsor Butler CAT Labs.
Seriously, if you're paying $5/qt for RP or Redline, all you'd have to do is stretch your oil changes out to 5000 from 3000 and you'd save enough money to cover it.
I feel for you. I wound up getting in WAAAY over my head when I was young.
My first car was a '77 Ford with a 460 cid V-8. That thing got 7 miles to the gallon, and if my shift at Dunkin' Donuts was under 3 hours I'd lose money on gas driving to work.
My next car was a '78 Mercedes 240D. It got 20 MPG in town, which was much better, but the stinking repairs on a 19 year old Mercedes ate me alive.
