Lots of good lookin' ladies in those numbers and equations classes?

BTW I agree with you, I am glad I never had to take this kind of stuff.

Most likely they will push more government control, racial integration, and fantasies of a nonexistent utopia. It's a boring class which usually has some good looking girls in it. The best part is the books cost $150 and they only use it for one semester,(because some sociologist came up with a new idea how to fix a problem they created and printed a new book), so you can't sell it back to the book store.

I think they use to call it social science in high school.

?

Sociology is the study of societies. What is done with the research is another matter, which apparently you have a beef with. Sociology doesn't cause social problems any more then Economics cause financial ones.

I had an idiot prof for my version of this class. Was also the dept head, tenured, racist, etc.

He did some footwork in the urban ghetto in the 60's; he claimed people wouldn't answer their door when he knocked because he was in a suit and the bill collectors wore suits.

I regurgitated what he said and got good grades.

Really you should be asking around at your own school. The gen ed requirements for each are unique, as are the proper path for filling them. Some classes are rather universal prequisistes while others are dead ends.

My son is struggling with a cultural diversity course at the moment. It's really a cultural adoption course. He really wants to offer his alternate view, but wants to pass the course.

He went to a university, where it is simply impossible to make the best grades if your views differ.

This is the reality of life.

Exactly!!! And now look at the financial problems the economists got us into.

Nature and society has a way of fixing itself. The scum settles to the bottom. If someone keeps stirring up the water in a pond, the pond supports less life than it would if it was left alone.

You should really try to talk him out of that. Offering an alternate view is part of being a good conversationalist, not a good university student. It won't help him achieve his goals and he's not going to convince the professor of anything. Especially not those God-awful sociology guys.

He's considering exchanging dialog with the professor after getting final grades on the course...but will probably be too busy to bother.

He's his own man. He's not naive at all. He knows the drill.

Well, a post-grading talk isn't a bad idea... I doubt he'll change the guy's mind, but it never hurts. I didn't think he was naive in a bad way. Often, it just takes a little time for a student to learn that the professor's opinion is the only valid opinion in a class setting. I just didn't want him to get a bad grade. Knowing those guys, the prof would likely grade his stuff more harshly because he dared question his opinion. In the study of hot air, there are bound to be some big egos.
