Hey everyone,

Anyone got a clue of what this course is about. I heard this course is more difficult than Inroduction to Psychology. Also give me information about the course load in general. Thanks!

I actually just took that class two quarters ago and im taking general psych now. Its not bad its just an overview of cultures and nature versus nurture and things of that sort. I actually found it really interesting.

I think course load will depend on school and professor. I took both those classes and I found both interesting, I think it would be hard to say if one was more difficult than the other one.

Been a while since I took it but I found it interesting. The teacher was really into the subject matter. It wasn't difficult but I got a "c".. probably with any other teacher would of got a higher grade. He prefers his students to apply themselves more with bonus points etc but it's hard to do when you're working etc.

I don't know about elsewhere, but intro classes at my school are usually boring and are there to fill gen ed needs. I'm a psych major and I found intro psych boring. It really depends on your instructor also. I had a professor for an intro to anthro class and she was excellent. Felt like I didn't have to do any work in that class but I still learned a lot.

I did a minor in soc. when I did my degree. Fascinating subject, if you like that stuff. Like Groucho said, every course depends on the prof. - I chose my minor b/c the prof. was awesome!

Had that one a while back. Terrible prof but I did learn alot. Interesting subject matter. Will give you a different outlook on societies and cultures different than ours.

I took it as a summer course at a community college. Every class had a quiz over some section of the book. We swapped quizes, graded them, and he set a grade curve so the lowest was a C. It was the easiest 3 credit hours I ever got.

The key thing I learned, is to take useless general ed classes as summer courses at a community college. Unfortunately, I learned this on my last general ed. course.

It was a worthless class IMO. Psych was much more interesting. Look at the sociology majors out there. Not a lot of brain-trusts in that demographic. A lot of tweed suits, though.

Sociology is useless politically correct nonsense. The more sociologist try to fix society, the more screwed up it becomes. You just read the book, remember what is in it, and act like you believe what the teacher says for the semester. You will most likely have to pick a "social subject," and do a research/term paper on it. Most likely they will push more government control, racial integration, and fantasies of a nonexistent utopia. It's a boring class which usually has some good looking girls in it. The best part is the books cost $150 and they only use it for one semester,(because some sociologist came up with a new idea how to fix a problem they created and printed a new book), so you can't sell it back to the book store.

I think they use to call it social science in high school.

Child Psych was a cool class. I wish it would have been longer and gone into more depth.

Cultural Anthropology will do that without the brainwashing and PC nonsense.

Epic post! Soooo true. My Sociology class was without a doubt the easiest, most do-nothing class I ever took. We had a research paper about a "social topic" just like you said. It counted as 1/4 of the final grade. The other 3/4 were 3 tests. They were all just multiple choice and T/F questions, and it was open notes!! If the professor hadn't made attendance mandatory, you could've easily only shown up on the test dates and still get an A. Every class consisted of the prof talking and hopelessly trying to get 20 half-asleep teenagers to participate in class discussions.

I never could figure out what they were trying to teach us in Sociology. I took it because the university required their engineers to be "well-rounded". In reality it did nothing for me and was a waste of my time and the university's time to include it in our curriculum. It only brought down my grade point average.

It's more interesting to learn these subjects on your own without exams and grades looming over your head. I have a natural curiosity for these subjects and I don't need a university to force me to be well-rounded.

I don't know about the brain washing. I took a lot out of that class which helped give me an understanding on different societies and cultures. Knowledge of Hispanic and Asian helped me in Law Enforcement, especially concerning family structure. The class is what you make of it.

When I took my sociology classes, I dismissed them as [censored]. But as I have grown older and wiser, I value the stuff they taught me.
