Interesting info from Quaker State

Hi all,
I usually run Quaker State 15w40HD oil in my Ford van, and curiously I asked Quaker State if they use any Slick50/PTFE in their products.

Here's what they said:
"At the present time none of our products contain the PTFE found in Slick 50. In the near future Quaker State will be introducing a new product line which will include a High Mileage oil which will conatin the Slick 50 additive. Look for this to begin in the March-April time frame."

Well, time for a couple of OAs!
I now run a high tech synthetic oil, gonna compare the OA from this with the new Quaker State oil when it gets out. (Hrrrmm, I'm still curious...) Will keep you posted.

Oh no! That means more abnoxious quaker state advertisings will be coming! I change the channel as soon as I see QS pop up.

Their connection with Slick 50 is one of the reasons I always avoided Quaker State oil. I thought that they even recommended against additives on their website?

If people believe it will help their cars, they'll buy it. Slick 50 is a well known name, and even if people don't really know what it does, they might think it's something they need to have.

Example:
Around here, Kwik Trip gas stations used to advertise that they had "Heet" pre-installed in their gasoline. Great...Just what newer cars want...Methanol in the fuel. People that refused to patronize Kwik Trip stores flocked there because they didn't have to buy Heet in bottles anymore. People think that thru scare tactic advertising and old wive's tales that anytime it's cold, you gosh darn better have some Heet in your gas or you'll be left stranded on the side of the road.
It sells a lot of product, even though I'd be willing to bet 99% of the cars on the road wouldn't run any different without it when it's cold outside.

I've never bought a bottle of Heet or any other brand of gas line de-icer in my life. No need if you run quality gasoline, and with EFI cars nowadays, the likelihood of fuel line freeze-up is all but eliminated.

I don't see KT stores advertising this anymore. Maybe since they have an ethanol blend midgrade gasoline they just tell people to run that instead. I haven't seen the "Heet" ads for a couple years now.
