Agreed, it's hard for blanket statements like this to be accurate without knowing the use case of the vehicles. With that said, my guess is that a lot of FCP's customers are enthusiasts instead of the typical BMW owner. While the statement is not wrong, it needs to be put into context. Would I track a B58 with 0w20? Unlikely. Would I let my wife use it in her daily driver? You bet.
I wonder what their statement will be on the 0w12.
End of the day you can trust the people who engineer and provide the warranty on the engine/car, or you can trust FCP Euro. Your choice.
It's possible the LL14FE+ is difficult to stock and IIRC the associated ACEA category no longer exists (A1/B1). LL01 is two categories higher in HTHS compared to LL14FE with LL01FE in the middle.View attachment 141573I was trying to contact someone and I stumbled upon this.
They recommend ll-01 over ll-14fe for B series BMW engines.
0W40 or 5W40 on the track! Ravenol VMP 5W30 everyday. While the statement is not wrong, it needs to be put into context. Would I track a B58 with 0w20? Unlikely. Would I let my wife use it in her daily driver? You bet.

Articulate please. 0W-20 or 5W-30?Physics matters. At least to some people.
They might be right in this instance, but a parts reseller is not a resource I would recommend taking technical advice from in general.Physics matters. At least to some people.
Seriously....a parts reseller is not a resource I would recommend taking technical advice from in general.
Sort of like making an oil determination based upon a $30 spectrographic analysis?Seriously.
If Rockauto put out a statement like this it would be laughed around the block by a significant contingent (me included) on this board.
And rightly so.
The fact that it's a Euro parts reseller shouldn't add a lick of additional gravitas. It's is akin to saying "but the warehouse guys told me something different!"
Sheesh!!!
Or you can do some research and trust your own judgment. While the statement is not wrong, it needs to be put into context. Would I track a B58 with 0w20? Unlikely. Would I let my wife use it in her daily driver? You bet. I wonder what their statement will be on the 0w12.

Meh, this is really a non sequitur.Sort of like making an oil determination based upon a $30 spectrographic analysis?
Appears FCP Euro carries a few options in LL01-FEAnother thing is why wouldn't they offer LL01FE? Oh that's right. It's difficult to stock. Or perhaps they haven't updated their FAQ since the B-series engines have been running low saps 20w LL17FE or LL01FE rather than LL14FE+ (i.e. ACEA A1/B1 no longer exists).
