I live very near a former Air Force base that is going to hold an air show this weekend.

The Blue Angles are strafing my home in cool formations of 6 at really low altitude. I could make out the marking on the air planes. Pretty neat loops in the sky too.

How are the air shows to attend? My wife is considering taking our 4 year old daughter to one but not sure what they are like?

You'll never know until you go. I've been fortunate to have been to a number of them while in the Air Force.

If you're into big, loud, pretty aircraft, it's wonderful. And you'll not know if your daughter will like it until you go. There will be aircraft she will think are cute and pretty, and some she might be scared of. There should be food and entertainment for childred. There will be static displays and flying planes, choppers, acrobatic aircraft, big lumbering things that look like they shouldn't be flying, and all types of things. I've seen a lot, and it was all good memories.

Take sunscreen and water (if you can.), and collapsable chairs. There is probably a webpage or some such advertisement in the paper where you can get some info about what they allow and what the hours are.

The same thing happens at my house when the Angles are in Redding Calif. It seems I could reach up and touch them . I can see the pilots face it is the coolest thing IMO. As far as going to an air show you just have to give it a try ,myself I like them . When my son was 8 I brought him to tsee an air show with the Blue Angles and half way through the show my son said dad lets go home I am tired of fleur de lis, Kids!!! I was amazed at the statment so we went home.

We have the Thunderbirds here and they are always great. If you have a young child, bring some sort of hearing protection. Their young ears are very sensitive to this and these jets are VERY loud when they fly over.

Military jets do not have the silencers that commercial aircraft do.

I once saw a B-1 bomber at an airshow doing some incredible things - was one of the most special things i've seen, truly impressive. I'll never forget those purple afterburners...

Depends on if she gets scared of noise. My kids always loved them. However if it is like ours you need to plan on a lot of walking, bringing water along if they allow it, some really light chairs that you can take a break on would help also. If it is going to be hot plan on sunscreen and a good hat and sunglasses. Usually we could find a place to get in some shade and if you don't mind you can sit on the ground sometimes in the shade.

Go early. These shows are always real popular around here. The closer parking space you get will be 200% worth it at the end of the day.

Yes we attended. It was very hot (90F++). We spent most of the time in the shade of a B52. Really bummed we did not get a picture there as my father in law was assigned to b52 in the 1960's.

My four year old girl loved it all. She was happy when a F16 taxied in about 50' from us beyond the flyovers and checking out planes.

My two year old girl was scared of the jets doing the (loud) flyovers and turns with full tilt. She refused to wear a headset. We had to leave for Blue Angels as she could not take it and at end of her rope. We ended up watching Blue Angels at a nearby Target parking lot on hood of car sipping on iced Starbucks. Kids sleeping away in car with AC on full tilt.

My wife loved it all and was really the one who dragged me out. I really enjoyed it.

I live normally 15 mins from where we parked on base. It took 1hr to get there. Apparently a 20 mile backup to get to this on RT95.

I had almost the same experience with my son a couple of years ago with the Thunderbirds.
