So there really is a hampster in a wheel under the hood of most Hondas?

It has to be true. Why would CNN lie to us?

I almost walked away from the Acura dealership when I was looking at my TL. The guy kept trying to sell me on the performance of the TL. I drove the GN to the dealer and had it sitting right there in plain sight. I informed the salesman the TL is in no way a performance car and I was interested in the other aspects of the car. No matter how many times I repeated myself he kept trying to sell me on performance. On the test drive the ---- kept telling me to floor it so I could see what he was talking about. I did what he asked and I started laughing. Ended up leaving 500' or rubber when I left and came back a week later to talk to a different salesman. I can't express how much I hate car salesmen.

To add to the original topic...

My Civic has a timing chain. Nowhere in the maintenance schedule is there any mention of replacing a timing chain. Not even in the "100,000 mile service" column.

Well even a timeing chain should be checked at 100k-120k for signs of wear.... Any more then 5° of deflection and it is time for a new chain!!! If you replace timeing chain tensioner's and you still have timeing chain noise it is time to replace!!!! THe bad thing is that timeing chain's can last any where from 100,000 to 500,000 miles depending on design, materials used, heat treatment, oil used and oil change interval!!! You will find that today the trend is to use a single row timeing chain that is not a roller chain and that is very narrow and long.....These do not help with durability but they do reduce drag wich is a huge issue!!!

Steve S so please tell us all why OHC engines suck? I mean the OHC engine design is older then the OHV design!!! THe OHV design was a cheap cost saveing measure that was more durable then flat head design's of the day!

The chain guides are the wear items. But if properly lubricated..ie regular OCI, It really should last the life of the car.
