Sooo the Mayor of Ormond beach is trying to give BP a black eye so he is boycotting the BPs within his city by not permitting the city trucks from refueling at BP stations to "send a message" Whatever... thats not the interesting part, thats just some bozo trying to get attention. The interesting part is that a BP gas station owner, 1 of the 3 in the city, a India man, claims his BP station, does not even sell BP gas, I buy unbranded generic gas, its not from BP, when you buy gas from my "BP" station, its not really BP. Now, I realize why I get better gas milelage, not from different brands, but different stations. I have to wonder now, how many of these gas stations flying logos really have the brand gas or "generic unbranded " gas. There are two gas stations, I consistantly get better gas at, one is a Sunoco and the other is a BP(not Mr. India's either, thats one BP, I think Ill keep away from, I wonder if he really thought he was helping his case. Funny.

Another thing to complain about. What if you went there specifically because it was top tier or you believed their marketing? You're not getting the additives you think you are.

I think someone like my grandmother who swears by Amoco "Gold Pump" as she called it would be upset to find out that she wasn't getting "Gold Pump"

He has to buy SOME amount of BP gas. Otherwise, wouldn't BP get wise to the idea that he was putting himself out there as selling BP with Invigorate, but not actually selling the product advertised.

I've stopped going to BP, but for purely selfish reasons. Until 7/4/10, I'm getting 25% rebates for using my Shell MasterCard at Shell stations.
Shell sent me a post card to use their loyalty program, offering $5 for every $25 you spent on your MasterCard at Shell stations.
So I choose to use my Citibank Shell MasterCard that is giving 5% rebates. So I figure I'm getting my gas at 25% off for the next two weeks.
I've already earned $50 in rebates loaded on the debit card the first two weeks and will likely earn another $25 or more the next two weeks.
That puts my gas at just under $2/gallon for regular for the next two weeks if the current prices hold.

BP does not own a single BP gas station in the US. They are owned by mom and pop operations. The gas they sell is not likely even BP gas, it all comes from the nearest refinery. It's a pure commodity.

All the BPs around here are little independent shops. I don't use them for gas, but that's simply because they are way too expensive. I go to Sunoco for E85 because that's the only place that has it, and pretty much anywhere that's cheap for 87.
True, gasoline is fungible. However, it better have the BP additive package if it's being sold at a BP station.
We have inground tanks for our fleet and I have been told by our suppliers there are only 2 refineries in SE Michigan to pull loads from, everybody is getting the same gas!, its just the additives that can be put in afterward and most of the time they are not.
I have ordered Premium diesel before and noticed it was not the usual pink color, called my supplier and they said sorry we will take care of it, the next day a guy came out and added 10 gallons of additive to our 12000 gallon tank! and said ok now you have your premium.

If the difference between brands is the additives (and I believe that it is given that they base fuel comes from the same refinery), and the additives add up to small numbers of cents per litre (and a few more per gallon).
Why don't the fuel suppliers sell their additives at a few cents per gallon treated plus packaging ?
:Advertising blurb: "Additive X can add all of the cleaning you need to any old carp plus stop gelling, freezing, bugs and psoriasis".
Which gets us onto why don't they sell GrII+, III, III+, IV basestocks, and an M1, Engine armour, VR1 additive to make my own ?

The additives are pretty much the same as well, but there's no way to prove it. Remember Shell gas with "platformate"? Well platformate was just a name Shell gave to an additive that went into all gasoline's. It's all marketing, but if it makes the guy who buys it feel better then so be it.

People are so stupid. If a BP station is 5 cents cheaper per gallon than the station across the street then where do you think they will fill up? Boycotts don't matter. Just my opinion.

All the BP stations around my area were used to be Getty until just last year. My usual mechanic had to reprint his cards from Getty to BP. The last time I was there for some work, an unbranded tanker was refueling the "BP" tanks.

This is the site where I give them the transaction data. The promotion code was on the offer letter I got.
