I have a 95 Thunderbird with the 4R70W and 200K miles. Fluid changed at 30k since I got it at about 100K. Lately it got a shudder, and I installed a red tube of Dr Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx to help with the notorious issue on these units. The shudder happened about 8K after a Mercon V change(converter drain). There were no ignition or other issues with the vehicle.

The shudder is gone for about 5K so far, I'm wondering if I have a worn torque converter or this is a permanent fix. The shifting seems a bit more precise too after this product.

I guess so...I read a lot about why they shudder. Even the late model Fords can do it.
I pulled into a random transmission shop just to ask, and the guy said shudder fix or lubeguard red goes into every 4R7xW trans from 92-10 that they service. He went on to say if the torque converter was really bad the shudder fix wouldn't make a bit of difference.

He did say to install a cooler ASAP if I want to keep the car, and made a statement that if a cooler was on every vehicle he would probably be out of business. His theory is one "hot" incident will ruin all the friction modifiers, and start to degrade the fluid.

Shuddering is usually a converter clutch not engaging entirely (slipping) or a clutch pack not fully locking up. Some trany fluids (old used stuff especially) lose the coeficient of friction additives needed to allow partial TCC lockup (Chrysler vehicles are famous for some partial TCC lockup modes) without shudder. So either the fluid wasnt liking any slippage whatsoever,or else the tranny is slipping for real (not designed in) and will eventually fail.5000 miles is pretty good though if it really is going to pot.

during light-medium throttle in 3rd gear. Worse going up hills. Touching the brake would stop the shudder.

My car was having shudder and also gear shift slips after the last ATF change. I added a bottle of Lubegard Platinum (the same company that makes your product I believe), and that fixed it. I mixed like three different Mercon V ATF fluids, and this could be the reason (various leftover bottles I already hard) or perhaps the tranny is going bad. No problems for about 10,000 miles so far.
