I installed XP after a virus attacked my system and ruined my browser.

I like the XP platform since I was previously using 2000 pro. XP seems to be a smoother OS as far as application loading, etc.. I definitely notice a big improvement over the 2000, but XP isn't without its bugs. The problems I am having:

The font setting for the browser will not stay at the "larger" setting. It seems to revert back to "normal" which is small. How do you correct this problem? My settings are 1024X768X32 at 75 hz.

Another problem is XP seems to lose my network configuration when it goes into a standby mode which will not allow me to access the internet (broadband). I have to reboot when this happens to reset network configuration..

How do you fix that?

wink2 pro does the same thing on my workstation with regards to the networking.

I found that instead of rebooting, I can just disable then enable the connection then all seems to work fine.

I'm having this exact problem with my XP Pro install. Been looking for a resolution but haven't found anything yet.

My problems with XP has been tied to all the different processes running and using RAM. I broke down and added 256Meg of RAM so I could open large images without getting the out of memory warning. XP uses alot of RAM for crap that runs in the background. Sometimes I miss my old 98 I could shut down everything but windows explorer and open photo program, but not with XP and Dell. I look at system information and see 512mb RAM but only half of it available, before I added 256 it got so low sometimes the system would hang up.

For font size problems, you might try these.

Font Changes Size in Internet Explorer 5 Using Eudora Pro 4.1 or 4.2
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q226/7/97.asp

Font Size Change Is Not Saved in Internet Explorer 5
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q242984

Font Size Settings Not Retained in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q255062

If you do not use Eudora, and the other suggestions do not apply, perhaps MSHTML.DLL is corrupt or not properly registered. Go to start / run and type:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll.

If still no joy, use System File Checker (SFC.EXE) to extract a fresh copy from c:\windows update setup files.

If all the above are N/A to you, try Firefox browser. It is better and more secure anyways.

For network problem when it is out from standby, try this.

Go to Start -> Settings -> Conrol Panel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device Manager -> (under) Network adapters -> right click your network card and Properties -> Power Management (tab) -> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

That should take care of it. If not, your network card might not be fully supported in XP. May be try a different network card. Mine reconnects automatically out of standby.
