I just want to add a program I used when I installed a new furnace and A/C unit in my daughter new to her 1884 farm house in the middle of St Paul. Pulled the knob and tube and did a complete rewire of the house with a new service entrance and panel. 100% complete new plumbing too. All work was permitted. The city wanted heat loss and an advanced Manual J the furnace/AC. I ended using this program to get the figures for ordering the HVAC form HVAC Direct. The inspector never has seen this program, but it passed with all the correct figures and documentation you need and how you came to those figures for a permitted DIY install.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. I still have my Ashrae book from my college days kicking around somewhere, but this is a lot easier.

Not sure why HVAC work would need to be permitted, these guys don’t know squat, but hey, at least they know you’ve got new stuff in there so they can tax you appropriately.

Where I live they don't permit DIY work. They literally only want contractors to do everything except painting and carpeting. Hence any DIY work you just don't get a permit for and do it anyway. Plus permits are like $450.

I used coolcalc for mine as well. It works well as long as you give the correct inputs; garbage in = garbage out.
