Is it feasible to install oil/transmission temperature senders at the base of Frantz bypass filters? Are there other better places to install the senders other than at the pans?

The best place to install a temp sender that I have found is look for a high pressure test port on your trans. If you have one, remove the plug and install the sender there. The nest best place is some where in the pan. I like to use the sender for the drain plug. Most will depend on what you have to work with and what do you want to install.

I also suggest if you're using JIC or AN fittings, using a coupler between two female fittings that has a port in the side for your sensor- typically 1/8NPT, IIRC.

I was looking at my Blazer's remote moount setup [factory] tonight and the pipe plug at the top of the unit looks like an ideal place for a sensor....

Since the senders can be installed at the thin metal oil/transmission pans, can I install them at the top of Frantz canisters by drilling holes in the center? I am not familiar with the egine block, and try not to drop the pans because too much work. Or should I have the professionsls install for me?

good idea, but I think theres an easier way-

get an adapter with the appropriate fittings- -NPT, JIC, SAE, whatever-- with the proper hole for your sensor that will fit inline with the hoses going to the filter. Unattach your choice of line, install adapter, install sensor, and reattach oil line.

MUCH easier than drilling a hole in the filter. Less concerns of leaking, too. That said-- if there's a flat surface on the filter housing with no ubstructions befind it, I don't see why you couldn't do it. But you'll lose any warranty the unit came with.

burnkat, I've had trouble finding such an adapter, at least one that doesn't allow the sensor to restrict the flow. The only thing I came up with was a AN tee with a NPT side run, a NPT coupling, and a reducing bushing to the sensor size. Is that what you mean or is there something better?
