I cant find 5w30 motocraft in 5qt jugs locally. I can find plenty of single quarts but they are spendy. I can find Penzoil platinium in 5qt jugs for $25 at walmart. They also have it in quarts so I can get a single to make it 6qts total.

Should I go with that? Or should I drive 30 mins to the ford dealership and have them change it for 39.95? I also noticed the 39.95 only covers 5qts. Wonder what they charge for that extra qt?

Not a lot of information here, but Pennzoil Platinum is a full synthetic while the Motrocraft you're probably referring to is a blend. So the Pennzoil should be the better oil by a few ticks at least, so you should be comfortable going with it.

You can go to the dealer, of course, but an hour's worth of driving isn't free, so the WalMart Platinum option is certainly cheaper, too.

Yes they will charge for it.

The Pennzoil Platinum is slightly superior to the Motorcraft if your pushing the oci.

Pennzoil gold is the competitor of Mc syn blend and more appropriate if you're running normal intervals.

I'm only putting 5-7k on my truck a year, My plan was to change it every 5k

There used to be about 3 brands that are similar to Motorcraft blend. 76, Phillips Troparctic, and Connoco blend. Does Walmart carry any of these?

Or the 'Pennzoil Synthetic Blend' which Wal-Mart carries, and is only a couple bucks more (on the 5 qt jug) than the conventional yellow bottle oil. Additional quarts are around $4.50.

It is the only oil that I'm using anymore... 50% synthetic.

For $39.95 they also rotate the tires, check the brakes and the battery and top up the windshield washer fluid. All with toplfight Motorcraft oil and filters. For once a year, why do anything else? As far as the extra quart goes, it varies from trip to trip. Last time it was only $5.

Yeah I know. It is just a little inconvenient having to drive out there and back. I guess its a give and take.

I would go with PP, its as good or better than the Motorcraft.

Why not just buy two 5 QT jugs to start and take 6 QTs out of the 10 QTs. Next oil change get one 5 QT jug.

I defiantly could. If the cap was on tight, would it go bad in a year?

What about the cost of knowing the job was done right and the drain plug, dipstick and filter were all installed properly and not with a Nascar air gun? Priceless!

Sure but if they mess up they get to fix it.

There might be a "Buy 5 quarts get a filter" sale at Advance Auto or Autozone and it might include Motorcraft brand oil. If you need a 6th quart, it typically costs about $4 extra when you use this sale.

Sometimes that same kind of sale applies to Pennzoil products. The 6th quart would also be sold a discounted price.

Some other parts stores have such a sale, but you would need to read the in-store sales flyer to know when such a sale is happening.

I use this method often.

I'd still take it back. Side note, I have a fumoto valve to install on the truck.

Thanks. I did check a few of the local parts stores and have yet to see a sale.
