I've posted this question before but didn't get many replies. I have alot of fuel injector/system cleaner (bought on sale). I checked the contents (ingredients) and it basically looks the same as a engine oil flush solution. Is it safe to add a bit of this to the crankcase just prior to an oil change, only letting it idle for 10-15 minutes? The tech at the auto parts store said it would be OK, but I thought it would be best to ask the experts at BITOG. It's a concentrated solution, 100ml treats 50L of gas. If it's safe, how much would you add to a vehicle that holds 6L of motor oil? I don't usually add anything to the oil, just wondering...

I'd not do it.

I don't like "quick" flushes out of principal, and that sounds pretty much like one of the quickest.

What are qualifications of that tech?

Very wise of you.

BTW, have you researched new engine installation cost in your vehicle?

A little backstory...why do you think you need this stuff? It may not kill it but it won't do much to clean up serious gunk...

I have used it before, the chemical is the same as one of the detergents added to oil (some)upon manufacture (if we are indeed talking about the same chemical).

I use it straight out of the injector cleaner bottle and into the engine.

Heaps of miles on the Mazda EFI engine and no bad results.
I also add it to the drivetrain components up to 100km before an oil change.
Is just a detergent after all and isn't that what all flushes are in one way or another -I guess?

cheers nqcairns

I got some Valve Cleaner you add to the crankcase. It's a lighter oil like MMO. Ingriedents Petroleum Oil (647 42-53-6) 2-Butoxyethanol (111-76-2), Petroleum Distillates (647 42-94-5), Diacetone Alcohol (123-42-2), Methyl Amyl Alcohol (108-11-2).
Anyone have any info? Is this safe?
