I normally have been running M1 5w30 in my 97 F150, but I decided to try out the free MaxLife 5w30 that I got from the rebate. I have only driven it a little bit, but the engine seems quieter. Could this be because the MaxLife is a little thicker than the M1? I'm not sure how it will hold up over time, but the 5.4L's are supposed to be pretty easy on oil and I couldn't pass up free oil.

Why don't the beer and liquor companies do these rebates. Free bottle of Crown Royal or case of beer after rebate?

I have not run the 5w30 Maxlife, but have good used oil analysis reports listed on this site for both 10w30 and 10w40 Maxlife. Has some PAO in it, about 15%.

I ran some of the free MaxLife 5w30 in our Oldsmobile minivan and got excellent results with it. UOA is posted no this site.

My maxlife ended up almost a 20 weight after 2970 miles.

As far as the "quieter" it's most likely placebo effect or just because the oil is clean and new.

I have used M1 5 or 10W30 in my Chevy 4.3 V6 since new. I couldn't resist the free Maxlife(10W30) either and just changed oil. The only noticable difference to me was the hot idle oil pressure went down a bit, from 50 to 40 on the gauge. At speed, it's still 65. Have no idea why.

this implies the Valvo is thinner
at speed your pressure is controlled by the spring loaded regulator valve
at idle there is enough leakage that you will be below the regulating point

I don't think it was placebo because I was hesitant to put MaxLife in to begin with, but then I figured I'd run a shorter 3,000 mile interval. I was expecting some noise on startup, but haven't noticed any yet, we'll see in a few thousand miles though? If it ends up a 20Wt it probably won't hurt anything since this engine is one that 5w20 is recomended for anyway.
