Industrial gear lubes in a diff ?

One for Bruce and Mola.

How comparable are Industrial gear lube specs with Automotive ones ?

Would this particular lube (Alpha SP220) http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp_int...ange_eu_tds.pdf go the distance Ok in a centreline spiral bevel and a hypoid diff ? (both require xW-90 lubes, and at least the 220 meets that)

Is there enough anti-foam/silicon in an industrial lube for diff use ?
Do the EP levels meet/exceed GL-5 levels ?

great question. From the spec sheets I've seen at work, industrial lubes are made for a pretty narrow application range and are generally changed out more often. I stick with diff lubes recommended by manufacturer. That said, I've seen them take my 85w140 in a pinch.
 
I have been using an industrial gear oil for several years in all my automotive rear differentials. I've been very pleased and don't think you will be disappointed at all. I use LE 1605 SAE 110.
