Increasing hostility on BITOG

Scott thanks for pointing this out and reminding us all that we should be on our best behavior. I know sometimes these discussions get out of hand over silly things.

We have great moderators and they usually keep everything running smoothly.

I'm glad we have great members and this is one site that I look forward to visiting daily and participating when I can.

Let's keep it going!

Yes believe me this is one of the least hostile forums. This forum was recommended to me over on GarageJournal another least hostile forum that I greatly enjoy along with this one and I am happy I joined even though when I first joined people didn’t like I had previously had bad experiences with SuperTech oil and was telling them very true stories and they didn’t like it and turned me in for it but I’m not mad or anything I still believe it was because I was new but I am still happy to participate in this forum. I am also part of a Toyota forum since I work for Toyota it helps people with Toyota figure out their issues but that forum has gotten out of hand so I have been sparingly posting to that one not as active anymore on there.

It's the redundancy. People starting threads on subjects that have been beaten into oblivion. Please, a little research would be appreciated before starting one. Search feature is quite useful.
The search feature on XenForo (current BITOG platform) is far superior to the previous one. With that said, one could use Google to search the site URL]>, but some folks may not know it and that may be what led to some of the redundancy. Other times, just laziness...

I'd say two things. First of all, when was the last time the world wasn't a messed up place? Secondly, more censorship and snowflakiness is not what we need. A mature, adult male should not be ruffled by an even very aggressive and ignorant disagreement online. I'm firmly for the right of most ignorant persons calling me moron even for my most intelligent argument. The alternative censorship is magnitudes worse

Freedom of speech doesn't extend into a private space. BITOG is privately owned, think of it as someone's garage where we hang out. The owner has spelled out very clearly rules of conduct and topics to be avoided. If it doesn't suit there are plenty of places to go get into verbal brawls that accomplish nothing.

The world isn't exactly a safe happy place right now, the tension shows up everywhere. Thanks to those who keep it civil here, it's appreciated.

I've no doubt that the raging censorship in the Big Tech, character assassinations, de-personing, frivolous firings - has a relatively broad cultural basis to rest on and be propped up by. Sawing off a tree branch on which one is sitting, describes well current American conformism and bovine obedience, I think. Remember this "private garage" BITOG can't exclude people based on their race, gender, and many other things. You can keep waving the flag of censorship, but if you think eventually it won't come for you, you are greatly mistaken.

As someone who was born in USSR, I can tell you America is ALREADY a parody of it, as far as language censorship.

P.S. what would you think, if a cellphone company would cut off you service because they did not like the language or the tone that you have used over the phone? It's a private company! It'd be totaly cool if they could do that randomly or systemically to people. Surely that would contribute to a HEALTHIER society?

Unfortunately in my experience BITOG is probably one of the more hostile forums I frequent, and has been for many years. I have no interest in forums where the members are mostly jerks, although I have no doubt they exist.

I think the majority of people on here are polite and act just as they would if you spoke with them in person. However, there seem to be a number of keyboard jockeys here who can't post on a thread without being sarcastic and insulting. It's tiring, but I think that most people just get used to it.

On most other forums I'm on the moderators typically have a word with the keyboard jockey on the first offense, and that tends to nip it in the bud most of the time.
