Increase security on your Windows computer

If you don't use IE, this trick is for you...

Go into the security settings for IE, set all to the highest level for intranet & internet zones. Then add microsoft.com and windowsupdate.com as allowed sites. The IE engine is used for Windows Update Outlook Express (maybe even rendering Outlook, too?) for emails, so pictures won't display from external sources, another layer of security, but still allowing Microsoft sites to work properly.

Hmm, I like hosting pictures on a 3rd party server (photobucket) and sending HTML formatted emails.. lets me say "here is X and Y" and have it come out looking super.

Hackers ruining it for me by having everyone turn security up to 11.

Plus the email comes in faster... doesn't display images until opened, good for the dialup crowd.

If you set IE to the highest security level your access is going to be kind limited as to what sites you can get to. For pc users who know what they are doing this is good, but for the beginner or person who doesn't know a thing about their pc's it can be a tad troublesome.

Very nice information though. Another thing I recommend is use spybot S&Ds immunization to add restrictions to the hosts file.
