My Neighbor has a 01 camaro with the 5.7 ls1 he had head gasket and all that replaced it has 110k when cold it ticks it does it warm to but not bad. He runs Valvoline 10w40 conventional. He swears that oreilly sold him the wrong lifters. He said the 98-00 ls1 was a 350 and his is a 346 and they take different lifters. He is having a friend tear the engine down and replace them and his cam. Is this possible? I said it was just piston slap but some guy with a screwdriver who knows alot apparently listened to it and said it was inbthe top end and that its lifters. Sounds dumb to me anyone have any thoughts

He's wrong about the LS1.

Beyond that, sure it could be the lifters, could be anything.

My question is why did he have to get all that work done?

It was leaking antifreeze into the oil. The car was rode hard and put away wet by the previous owner. He paid 8500 and has out 3000 in it. He thinks he got a great deal.
