Imported Craftsman tools?

Some of the finest tools I use (abuse)daily are Chinese made "Gear Wrench" brand ratcheting box end wrenches. Quality, fit, finish, VERY near SnapOn. These are expensive, but not nearly SnapOn,Matco,Mac price.

I have some Taiwanese "Bench Top" wrenches (almost typed "wenches" there!) that are alright.

*muses the word "dropforged*

aren't craftsman tools have a lifetime warranty? an ex g/f dad had one break that was 30 years old and walked in a sears and got a free replacement wrench. this was like 8-9 years ago

I like Snap On, I have some of their tools including a smaller tool chest. I bought them when I was still a teen, but over the years I have filled out my set with Craftsman as now I have three kids, a mortgage, vehicles we're still paying on, etc.

I'm in the city. Off the top of my head I don't know of any Sears, although a nearby mall likely has one. Anyway, I don't want a broken piece of junk replaced with a free soon-to-break piece of junk. I'm now mostly buying Hazet, Rahsol and Gedore tools that don't break.

My dad worked for National Airlines and Pan Am and he still has all his Craftsman tools in excellent condition. Some of his Craftsman are close to 40 years old and I think they will probably last another 40 years.

Mori, send me a few samples and I'll give that satement a serious tryout! If their really great, it's a shame their marketing is so poor. Many (most)of us wrench busters have probably never heard of them. Shame they don't have a dealer coming by once or twice each week.

LT4Vette,
Even casual examination of new vs. old Craftsman make it obvious they're built to different quality standards now.

Plus, if you give a Craftsman tool catalog a close examination you'll find a line called "professional" as compared to home shop grade.

Yeah, those companies don't sell any tools anymore. They are out of business.

????

Who's out of business? Googled the names you listed and their all still available. The ones with trucks coming by weekly are very much alive and well.

If European (?) tools are of such high quality they sure are missing a vast market here in the US.

I admit that the new Craftsman wrenches are near as nice as the ones I bought back in the mid 60's, but I wouldn't think that is a legit Craftsman wrench. I'd send the pictures to Sears customer service.

Naw, the one in Chris's picture doesn't look anything like even a not-so-good Craftsman product, but looks like a crude copy that's been cast in some lousy alloy.

I don't have any Snap-On tools. Their trucks are always going the wrong way and I never see one parked.

I have broken many Snapon tools in 23 years of turning wrenches for a living.

As have I. Must admit many were pushed beyond normal use though (cheater pipes and hammers, heat from torches, using screwdrivers as prybars, etc.) When getting it done (hopefully right) quickly means the difference in profit of loss the tools often suffer,,,,along with nuckles, nails, and backs!

Anyone who can point me toward better, tougher, more ergonomic tools than SnapOn,Matco,Mac, will be greatly appreciated!

Do love my GEARWRENCH china made tools though!
