Has there been a change recently with image processing? I understand there likely has to be some compression since the default resolution for screenshots and photos these days is so high, but recent photos seem much blurrier than usual. It's difficult to read text on images people post. Thanks.

I’ve noticed this too with recent image uploads.
For example, diagonal lines on the car hood in the attached image below appear to be more jagged than they did in previous uploads from a few months ago:

I see it on the example posted, but I just did a test post and it looks ok.
Can you point to an example?
Here's one. He clearly took a screenshot of the photo which reduces the resolution considerably, but if you zoom in, it's basically not readable.

I'm using both ... stocked up a while ago when I got a good deal on them. Just put a MicroGard Select on the Tacoma last week (below, added 6 bar magnets) and also put a MicroGard Select on the Coyote last OCI. Got Carquest Premiums on deck for the next OCIs.

It's an issue of dimensions/pixels in this case. BITOG forum automatically downsizes images to 1024 pixels, be it vertical or horizontal. Since the image/screenshot was in portrait (vertical) mode, vertical pixel count was reduced to 1024. To preserve original proportions (aspect ratio), this caused horizontal pixel count to be reduced down to 470, and that is clearly not enough resolution for content with so much text. The image has a lot of blank space above and below. If he had cropped those areas before uploading to BITOG, the result would have been much better.

Agree. I provided some education on that in the thread, too.
The default and I think minimum resolution on my Samsung A53 is 16mp. 64mp is available.

It's just a lot to ask from a 1024 pixel wide image to clearly/sharply render so much text in tiny font. BITOG image uploader is configured to apply heavy compression to save on storage space and bandwidth, which is totally understandable. This works well for typical photos, but is not optimal for a lot of tiny text.
Image quality would be slightly better if less compression was applied, but then you'd end up with a file that's 4-5x the size. When you have to store and serve up tens of thousands of images, that's a big impact to your bottom line. Most sites charge for hosting high res/high quality images. BITOG does not charge anything.
If I recall from the last time I tried, I uploaded to another host and tried to link it here, and it still pulled the photo and copied and compressed it here from the image URL.
Now I understand that the upside is that in 5-10 years, the images will still be here, whereas all those photos uploaded years ago to Imageshack and others are all broken now, sadly. I've found some old threads with tutorials that were absolute gold, but they're lost because the host stopped serving the images. So I appreciate that this won't be an issue here.

When I've used this, it's been a while so I might be mistaken, I want to say it just fetched the image and hosted it here.
I don't use any of those commands.
I just paste a direct link to the image and wrap it in "IMG" tags, like this:
