as of today I have owned my bmw for 1.2 year's and I feel like I keep going with my grand father's method's of Oil change's. I don't have this issue with my tundra Which I change Oil every 5-6K due to the Pure 1 filter. but when it comes to my car it a total diff story maybe Im Paranoid? I miss how he used to say "Its dirty time to change the oil".Maybe this is my way to cope with my grand Father's Passing? Either way I never seem to pay no more then 35.00 for all my Oil change's.

Went threw my maintenance book today and saw my Invoice's.

3000 mile oci on a German car with a likely large sump and synthetic oil? That's a waste but if it makes you feel better then keep on.

Actually I'm hoping to get his used oil. Send it to me, I'll use it for another 7K!

If You were here in Houston I would Gladly give you all my oil! I Usually take it to work and keep it in the back.and if somebody who need's a qt to top off and have no money I give them the oil.

Depends upon who the owner is as well as which BMW model he owns.
Way back when my BMW was new, relatively heavy dino oils were speced and the MM allows for prety long drains.
If I were the OP, I might pay more attention to the MM and less attention to the stealer.

well more like when i see the dipstick. on my tundra when i pull the dipstick oil still look's fresh after 5k but in my bmw it already black around 3k. it's my first car that I actually Bought. My self after high school.

I have to agree...you are changing your oil way to frequent.

on another note, curious how you / the BMW are liking the Castrol 0W40....any comparisons to GC?

It's hard to see the dark oil and NOT think "oh geez, I should change this!" I was doing 3k OCIs. On a Honda.

And for the most part, isn't it cheaper to just swap it out rather than send it off to be analyzed?

Yes it is cheaper to just replace it usually, unless you run a really large sump, like a diesel rig that takes 10 gallons of oil or boutique oil, but running the UOA might let you extended your oil changes further in the future. Those who run them just for the heck of it though and not extending changes aren't recouping that money.

No problem dumping the oil,if it's black. It's about the engine, not the oil.
