Is there any type of wipers that work in winter weather? I just replaced my blades about 2 months ago (Anco blades), but they just don't wipe worth a [censored] in this winter weather. They streak terribly, and as Murphy's law would have it, the part that doesn't wipe is always right in my line of sight. I'm constantly having to open my driver's door when I stop to snap the blade on the winshield, but that only works for a few seconds as the wiper quickly goes back to not wiping properly. Please give me some ideas as I'm sick and tired of not being able to see!!!!!!

I bought the cheap ones at Wal-Mart ($3.48 red container) to replace my factory ones on my Toyota. They work great! (I drive 50+ miles one way and don't have to mess with them at all)

And we have had some weather the last few weeks.

My original ones lasted to 120k miles and were working ok.( streaking a little)

Once I got the new ones on, I could see that they were streaking a LOT.

Remember in winter weather to have the defrost on and some heat.

Take care and good luck. Bill

I like the ANCO winter blades. These are the ones that are completely covered with rubber.

I put them on the in late fall, and take them off in the spring. I'm on my third winter with the same pair, and they're still working just fine. About $6-$7 a piece.

It sounds like you need winter blades. Those have the rubber covering the joints as described above. This will help keep them from freezing and not conforming to the shape of your wind shield.

I've heard some good things about the molded blades as well. I haven't used them myself though. I normally just jack the defroster up to high.

I've had the Anco Contour wiper blades on my Saturn for over a month and they are the best wipers that I've ever used. Maybe you should try cleaning yours with alcohol.

The new Ancos I put on my Mazda last spring worked great until the weather turned cold. Performance degraded a lot, suddenly. They may need cleaned, or just replaced with new ones. The current ones baked in the sun / hot garage all summer so they may be ready for the trash.

Hi Grampi
If you live where it snows or freezes a lot get pair of snow blades as mrsilv04 said, they are completely covered in rubber so that the snow and ice can't freeze between the metal blade. I keep a pair put them on when I head north just in case it snows. I think mine are made by Anco or Trico

+1, I haven't found a better wiper than a regular old Motorcraft.

Ancos do pretty well, but the Bosch wipers are a joke.

Same problem. Bought some Bosch this fall for two cars and they completely blow. Switched one car to Anco winter and those are a little better but were completly useless when we had a 50 degree rain.

I found a pricey, but sweet winter blade at AutoZone last year. My dealer stole them last winter (long story) and I haven't been back to AZ to figure out which kind they were.

If you're dealing with ice once a week or more, winter blades are a must, IMO.

Up here in Canada I replace my wipers each year just before the winter. I buy the cheapest wipers I can find and I have never had a problem. I also use Rain-X windshield washer fluid, because it coats the windshield and stops ice from forming, and [censored] sticking to the windshield. Small price to pay for safety, and no annoyance.

I installed a pair of the Anco winter blades yesterday after work. I'll see how they work.
