03 Yamaha Kodiak 450. coil melted the ground wire from coil to a connector that connects 5 ground wires before going towards battery. coil is bad measures 8 ohms, power wire for the coil is in good shape, coil is bolted to the chassis with the ground wire sandwich between coil and chassis.Haven't got it running yet,but can't figger out what happen to the coil that melted the wire and didn't blow a ten amp fuse.

If the ground wire from engine to battery fails, starter current could flow in the smaller ground wires and burn them.

Total guess. The coil's secondary windings shorted. Voltage but very low amperage. Check wires for fraying at ends and continuity. No clue but my Ford and Jeep use fusible links and one may have opened. Please post followup TIA

Definitely check all other ground wires and connections between engine block, chassis, and battery. A wire melting down like that without blowing a fuse means current leaked or was forced from somewhere else. Starter, charging system, etc can all cause enough current to heat a smaller wire red hot if the larger proper ground wire is broken or corroded.

Ground wire from battery to engine was corroded at the engine and the CDI box was bad.Wire that melted and the coil had to be from trying to find a ground. Thanks for all the help.

Did you already buy another cdi box? You know you can wire a GM HEI module to make it run again. Go to youtube and type in hei mod https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hei+mod
