F250 97, 7.3l turbo diesel, drivin hard.

Whats a good filter to use, something that makes me flush some oil every 5k or a 10k filter that matches my oil?

This obviously is before I spend the money to go to a by pass if I can find someone to install one for me.

If the oil is capable of going the full 10k without any top off (to bring up TBN, etc) then I would think a good long drain filter would be a good choice. Wix and Fleetgaurd make high efficiency long drain filters. Luberfiner also makes one now I think, which is a champ labs filter. Hard to go wrong with Fleetgaurd.

As for the bypass filter, plumbing them on a 7.3L PSD is quite easy. There is thread in the bypass section recently that went over how to do this. Navistar provided plugs, so no fancy adapters are needed!

MC is rated at 5k is my understanding?

Also, thank you for the advice on the bypass, i will MOST certainly look into that!

How long can I expect a FleetGuard Stratopore filter to last> I'd like to run 15k drain intervals providing the filter will still perform and the oil analysis is good.

If you want a cheap filter for a 5 K change, use a Wix or Napa. If you want a filter to go 10 to 15 K use an Amsoil.

Donaldson has an extended drain filter that uses media similar to that of the Amsoil filter. Baldwin also has an extended drain filter, however I think that Amsoil, Donaldson and Fleetgaurd are the only outfits using "synthetic" media. I recently picked up some Donaldsons for my SBCs and spin-on ATF filters. I'll cut one apart after an OCI on one of the SBCs, probably be a while.

I think that the Amsoil, Donaldson and Fleetgaurd will go 15k without a problem unless the engine has a problem that affects the filter. I would go 15k without any worry on those filters.

Through September 1 Advance Auto has the Mobil 1 extended performance EP filters on sale for less than $8. If they don't have your #M1-601 on the shelf, you can order one or a few at the sale price and have it there the next day usually. I would have no problem going 15K or one year on this huge filter, which is a bargain at this price. The Amsoil or Donaldson offerings would probably be a little higher quality in filtering, construction, and capacity, and possibly slightly less resrictive full synthetic media- but easily double the price of this M1 EP filter sale, reg priced at $10. For 5-10k filter changes, about any filter should be fine- Motorcraft, Purolator, WIX/Napa Gold, STP at AZ, Super Tech at WM.
