I want to mix 4 quarts of Redline 5w30 with 4 quarts of Redline 5w40 to achieve a 5/35.... Will this translate in the real world as a 5/35 weight oil? I think that this would be the perfect blend for the 5.5 AMG engine. The 5w40 is not as viscous as I'd like at the testing temps.

I dont understand this statement. 5w40 is not as viscous but 5w35 will be more viscous????? Help a confused brother out here!

He probably meant a more viscous 5w30 but hey ...

As far as the mix... Since there is no 5W-35 you would either have a light 5W-40 or heavy 5w30.

In this case according to the aforementioned calculator it would be a light 5W-40 at 12. 8 cSt at 100C based on current published data from Redline.

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I was hoping to achieve a lighter 40wt. The 5/35 offers a nice stable HTHS #. Right now, I am using GC which is barely at the necessary (?) 3.5 for the AMG engine. I think that the next round will be the Redline blend. I have only had three runs with the GC. Each was under 3k in that the car does not see that but every 6 months. Do you guys think that the GC would shear to under the 3.5 with some spirited driving over the course of 3k?
