2003 G55 AMG 5.4 349HP 57xxx miles. Just purchased with an attractive maintenance record. Any advice on a solid replacement for Mobil 1 0w40? I currently have a half blend of Redline 5w30 and 5w40 in there. I couldn't go with just the Redline 5w40 for fear of poor(er) gas mileage. As it stands it is already atrocious. I want to put in something else than Mobil 1 if I am paying 7.xx a quart. I have tried GC in my 01 E55 with the same engine. It seemed to weep from the valve cover a bit more with the GC. AMG also specs a 40wt. Maybe I should just continue with the Redline....However, OG Racing's price went up to 9.xx per quart. Can Redline do 10k in this engine? I would suppose so. Thanks guys.

I was going to say Amsoil 5w40 as well.
Are the Mobil and Redline oils not working for you?

I'd never heard of the G55 AMG until now.

I've always loved the E55 though. Amazing car. It'd give the previous model M5 a great run for its money.

I think the MB cars are probably the best styled of all the germans. One of these days we'd love to have an SLK for my wife.

Redline would work fine if I would like to pay 9.xx a quart and mix the 30 and 40wts. The G is fun. I got a [censored] of a deal (16k under book value) and am lovin' it. I am looking for an oil to play around with that has the ability to give me a 1-2mpg gain. Possible? unlikely, but an interesting venture nonetheless.
