also 40 sucks
Interesting how the public opinion on that has shifted. It was the darling cartridge about 30 years ago.also 40 sucks
It's OK. Not great. Not terrible.also 40 sucks
I have witnessed a "full circle" in calibers. It is interesting as you put it. I agree. One example of this is the new 277 Fury, recently accepted and being phased in into infantry and special operation forces. 30-06 then 308 shortly, then 556, then back to a powerful medium\high power caliber.Interesting how the public opinion on that has shifted. The hot ticket. A must-have. Everybody was making one and everyone wanted one.
More power and effectiveness than a 9mm more magazine capacity than a .45. It was all over magazine covers.
Then, a funny thing happened - 9mm rounds got far more effective. Speer Gold Dot, for example. Analysis of actual police encounters, and round effectiveness showed that the 9 mm was equally effective as the .40.
So, lower recoil, higher round capacity, cheaper ammo. 9mm became hot again.
Yeah, maybe saying it sucks is a bit strong and without filter. It will do the job, and do it well, i just dont like it.It's OK. Not great. Not terrible.
Ammo manufacturers did themselves a poor favor by downloading 10mm to equal 40SW. I think 40SW is fine as I stated, but would be more favorable to some if 10mm was 10mm, ie healthily hotter than 40SW.
Anyway I do have a 40SW Carbine. It's a fun gun to plink with.
I have a 6.5CM barrel and upper that I have not quite finished building. That ammo is expensive - but I have a nice piece of glass for the rifle, so, I look forward to trying it outI have witnessed a "full circle" in calibers. It is interesting as you put it. I agree. We prepare for the war we just fought, you understand this.
The new m1152 9mm Nato round has more power than typical 40sw due to being a hot loading. Typical 45acp today has the same juice, around 440lbs. Seems like thats the number. 45 having an accuracy advantage over both 9 and 40. I would not be surprised if 45 came back as the "new" pistol round
I have never liked the 40 never owned a gun in 40.
To be honest, a bit of topic, I am surprised that 6.5 cm has stuck, time will tell. I dont own one of those either.
He doesn't have a 40 barrel, he runs them through the 10mm. I'm surprised he doesn't have feeding problems due to OAL in a 1911 but he doesn't.With a separate 40SW barrel or 10mm barrel?
I’m surprised as well - I would think that 0.25” or so reduction in length would cause feeding issues and I’m surprised that there isn’t a bunch of issues caused by that same 0.25” set back from bullet to throat. He doesn't have a 40 barrel, he runs them through the 10mm. I have no doubt you will be satisfied with its accuracyI have a 6.5CM barrel and upper that I have not quite finished building. That ammo is expensive - but I have a nice piece of glass for the rifle, so, I look forward to trying it out
It is unlikely that you will ever wear out that gun, everI ordered 2,000 coated cast bullets and when speaking on the phone the owner said yes we have them onmthe shelf, I had to ask, are you selling much 40 any more. He said no. I find more 10mm brass at the range that 40 S&W and 38 special is rarer that hens teeth. I still am trying to wear our my XD Tacticle in 40 S&W , still it works great until it gets so dirty the cartridges fail to chamber.
Both... I am not blaming it for not feeding/ejecting .40 reliably. My Glock 20 has been utterly reliable with 10mm ammo.
Are you saying that your Glock didn’t perform reliably with 10mm?
Or, as I read your post, that it was unreliable with .40 ammo?
Because if it is the latter, that is clearly on you. No firearm manufacturer condones firing .40 in a 10mm gun, despite what internet blowhards post about doing so.
What do you mean by clean up? Reaming?Never had a Glock with a Glock barrel misfeed or otherwise FTF.
I have used .40SW Barrels (and 9x25 and 357Sig) in my Glock 20, which is the right way to do it. And some of those aftermarket barrels are a bit tight (LW) and need clean up, not a huge issue.
The only trend I have seen with Glocks was the gen 2-3 ejector not flinging cases out far enough, sometimes the case would fly straight up, and back into the chamber. Gen4 ejector solved that. I recommend the installing the gen 4 in a gen 3.Never had a Glock with a Glock barrel misfeed or otherwise FTF.

Interesting. My Gen 4 will intermittently malfunction if fired without a magazine inserted, my Gen 3 has never done that, ever. The only trend I have seen with Glocks was the gen 2-3 ejector not flinging cases out far enough, sometimes the case would fly straight up, and back into the chamber. Very mild but yes in some cases or burr removal. In at least one barrel just polishing compound. What do you mean by clean up? Reaming?
