I walked up to the shell station this morning and asked the tech again how much they charge for an oil change. he told me 65.00 and continued to say he uses a big drum of the Idemitsu oil. Told him thanks and I'll check this out.. glad I did.. I contacted the site and they told me they do not have any oil designed for the 2.0L engine. But I guess if I did a cross reference with japanese cars like the Mazda it would show that several of these cars use the same 2.0L engines. I'm not convinced on wanting to use this japanese oil.. any thoughts on this Idemitsu brand of oil in our 2.0L ford engine.

It’s just as good as anything else in the same category really, just a normal full synthetic. Idemitsu is a huge company and the OE supplier for many oils for Japanese vehicles. I’ve used it in our Subaru with good success and would again without a second thought.

Glad about what?

Idemitsu blends about all their oils sold in the North American market in the USA in Indiana IIRC. To get "Made in Japan" Idemitsu oil, it is usually gray market imported stuff for Asian make speed shops.

Like mentioned, it is nothing special but does meet any spec they claim.

What exactly do you drive that you feel idemitsu oil isn’t suitable for your vehicle or your ”2.0”?

Mazda's OEM 5W-30 fill is Idemitsu Zepro 5W-30. Frankly, I'm not impressed by it. The virgin KV100 is 9.5 cSt and shears out of grade.

Idemitsu Zepro / Mazda synthetic 5W-30 (as of March 2022)

Mo: 74
Ca: 1566
Mg: 358
P: 682
Zn: 802

KV100: 9.49 cSt
KV40: 55.61 cSt
VI: 155
HTHS: 2.97 cP
CCS: 5,350 cP @ -30°C

Bulk tanks are also quite dirty. Someone posted particle counts of the same virgin oil from a bulk tank and from a jug off the shelf. The bulk tank was several times higher. I can't find it now.

Idemitsu is OEM for Honda, Subaru, Nissan and Mazda that I know, maybe more. Many of those engines last forever on this stuff. If your Ford won't survive on it, its got nothing to do with the oil.

The 2.0 Ford takes 5W-30? If so, Idemitsu doesn't make a 5W-30 any longer.
IGF-3 5W-30 is not available anymore? I would be pretty shocked actually - not that it was anything special.

It appears as though I was given some incorrect information.

Their older formulations had quite a bit of moly.
