ID for buying Booze

Using someone else's name to vote basically never happens. The penalties are severe, while the personal benefit to the voter is nil. When someone is caught doing it they are usually a Republican, and it is a mail-in vote where demanding ID would not have prevented it.
Not funny at all . Makes ne furious .
The TV has you all worked up over a problem that actually does not exist.

TV has lots of people worked up about lots of problems that don't really exist but these wedge issues keep the masses coming back for more. Turns out, fomenting hate is good for business.

It is exactly the opposite and mail in voting should not be allowed will only exceptions for people who cannot get out and military serving overseas, otherwise show up show your ID that proves you are a citizen (eg passport or federal ID) and vote.

I don't know what alternate universe you guys are living in but reality is non existent in it. I will not elaborate as it is too political.

I’m 71 and have to give my drivers license to the Bev Mo clerk so she can scan it to complete my purchase.

In America a business or person can be sued for just about anything. Suppose a teen that looks 30 (and some do) buys booze and the clerk doesn’t verify age. Teen goes out and gets wasted, running over some little kid riding their bike. The store would get sued by the parents of the little kid - and the parents of the booze buying teen would sue the store too - because it wasn’t THEIR fault their kid was driving drunk.

Scanning “your” barcode isn’t to verify your age. It’s to track your consumption. Won’t be long before health (and auto, for that matter) insurance companies start tracking consumption of everything they deem harmful to health and adjust your rates accordingly.

“Oh, we see your ID barcode was scanned at a bar 14 miles from your house and you had 5 beers in an hour, and we tracked your phone and car while you drove back to your house. There were no other cell signals tracking with your vehicle movement, so we know it was you. Here’s your DUI fine & notice of your license revocation. Click here if you’d like to round up to the next dollar to donate to the political party in power.”

Not sure how you can pretend to know my position based on my very neutral statement. You assume you know too much and you don't have any idea what my thoughts are or aren't.

I think your tin foil hat might be on a little too tight.

That's a pretty strict requirement around here to buy pseudoephedrine. Theres a national database for purchases, and a driver license can be required for purchase.

But other than that, I really doubt anyone is tracking individual purchases of alcoholic beverages.

Whatever makes you feel better .

I was surprised to see fentanyl listed on my meds when I had hernia surgery. My mother in law has some opiates and narcan. She won't take any opiates for fear she'll become an addict.
Man, I hate that people are that afraid of them. I've been on a maintenance dose of Percocet or Lortab for 3 years now to deal with cancer-related pain. There have been times I couldn't afford to fill them. Absolutely 0 bad effects when I don't have them, other than hurting more than normal and not getting out of bed because of it some days. I don't go through withdrawals or go become a heroin addict.

I'm certainly not denying that some folks have issues with it, I've known a few personally. But especially the 3 days worth they normally give after a surgery, you're not going to get addicted off of, or even a month unless you're getting really high doses of Oxycontin or something over-prescribed.

Very neutral statement? I don't see any problems or wedge issues being reported that don't really exist. You previously posted MA is a good place to live and I think it is an absolute hell hole so there is that.

We didn't tell her the post-op self-administered pain med was a narcotic. Hope you feel better.

It was neutral until you applied some baseless judgment to it. Do everyone here a favor, stop thinking so hard about what I do or don't believe outside BITOG. No one cares...myself included.

Mark this post then, and in 5 years let’s come back and revisit. I’d happily put a deposit down with one of the mods to hold your $ for me to collect when it comes true. If you can’t see the possibility of this happening in today’s world, I’d even let you double down if you felt so strongly about it.

They check ids however they don’t always turn out to be picky on quality. My daughter’s friend has a laughable fake one at best done as joke and it has worked or made clerks burst out laughing.

okay... to be Clear. scanning the barcode on your ID Does Not contact any Govt. Database.

all the info on the front of our ID is encoded in that barcode.
all our register looks at is 2 Fields. DOB, and whether the ID itself is Expired ( Expired ID is no longer a Valid Form of Identification.)

The Grocery where I work, the Corp policy for the last 30 years has been to Card Everyone who looks under 40. now they've moved it up to 60.
