I'd be all over this Buick Avista....

That's probably what some said about the first 63 Riviera............. IMO one of the best designs ever (63-65). Which sold very well

It's a Camaro for the older folks.

I kinda like it, oddly enough. Not sure about the interior, which is where it really matters; but the exterior looks pretty good.

There, fixed it.

Nice... I could see myself in it, but then I am 'older.'

Its more direct in-house competition would be the Cadillac ATS, especially since the Camaro is just an ATS for the trailer-park crowd (I kid... mostly). This is an ATS without all the edges and planes that Cadillac styling has been filled with the past 10 years.

That is slick looking. Im not concerned about 4 cylinder engines however...

Ill take a diesel in it, please.

+1 Looks like they are finally taking a turn and making some snazzy looking cars. I will be interested in seeing one of these when they reach the lots.

Diesels are likely dead until fuel rises enough to beat out excellent MPG offered by modern gassers. TDI scandal has not helped the cause either.

Paint it black, make the interior black and silver, turn up the boost on the twin turbo V-6, call it a Grand National, and you then have what Buick is really planning with that car.

Yes, there will be a version of this car named Grand National.

BC.

Buick needs to figure out how the make it a legit competitor to the 4 series and the Audi A5.

Marketing maybe, kids don't want to drive there dads Audi!

Yep and Cadillac will sell a neutered version with long vertical tail lights. Pontiac might have done something decent with this but the touchholes at GM elected to keep the geezer mobile division instead.
That car in that form will never be seen in the US market I'd bet money on it.

They do already, it's called an ATS coupe.

It is a smart move. Buicks are aimed at older people, and an older person can appreciate an auto trans, and a back seat. Also remember Porsche 911 has a "backseat."

It is brilliant marketing.

Having even vestigial rear seats is a big help for keeping insurance rates down...I learned this with my oh-so-powerful 2 seat CRX, which gave me higher insurance costs than a Buick Regal Grand National would have.

Of course. More structure keeps you precious inches/feet from the tractor trailer rear ending you. Since the driver has the highest probability of being in the car when it is hit, it makes sense.

I'd gladly take a 50mpg hybrid Cruze diesel in that car...

My father and grandfather primarily drove Buicks throughout their lives. I'm in my mid-40s and have found Buicks to be very ho-hum for decades, although I like the direction the company has been going recently. I could see myself buying a Buick Avista if it goes into production, and without too much adulteration from the concept vehicle.

For me it's kind of like the 6 Series; I'd really like to have one- when I turn 80.

GM has a sad history of letting their better brands age poorly, and giving all the attention and advertising to lowest-common-denominator Chevrolet. Pontiac- lost all its sporty identity selling re-badged Cavaliers and vanished. Oldsmobile- same story (and the irony of the 'not your father's Oldsmobile' ad campaign was just sad- your "fathers Oldsmobile" might have been a 442 with a fire-breathing 455, whereas what they were advertising was an anemic front-drive POS with a rattling Chevy v6 under the hood.) Buick- been sliding down the same slippery slope for 20 years, but somehow hanging on. It would be great if they could turn it around the same way Cadillac has turned its image around since the 90s when the Cadillac buyer mean age got up well over 50...
