I have a White Mountain hand-crank ice cream freezer. It was my Grandpa's before he passed away and then handed down to me. I've had it for a year and pulled it out to enjoy today. Unfortunately, I found some rust on the two wire bands that wrap around it. Also, it looks like one of the wood slats has a small bit of rotting going on. (From the rock salt I assume?)
I'm done using it and I've rinsed the thing off. My idea on the wires is to sand off the corrosion and then put some oil on them before I put it away. Any ideas on that, and what I can put on the wood to protect it? Also, any hints on what to grease the mechanical parts with?
Thanks guys. This thing is special to me and I'd like to keep it as nice as possible as long as possible.
