As some of you have seen, I am more than sold on ARX and its mystic mojo. I ran 4 consecutive ARX treatments about 15k miles ago and the car has been reborn. However, from the birds eye view of the oil cap there is still as much varnish caked onto the internals as when i bought the Swede at 82k.

I am fully aware that ARX works best with dino, I am just curious if it will work as well(or almost as well), yet over a more extended period of time with a full syn like Redline. I plan on changing out the RL between 7500 and 10k, so I'd like to throw in the ARX around 5k on the OCI. Being that RL could easily go to 12k-15k on a single OCI, I know wouldn't be adding the ARX to "spent" oil.

And for those of you that will be tempted to say "just use dino dangit!", I say to you...never again in my aspirated Volvo.

Your engine is already clean from the 4 consecutive ARX treatments. If you want to get rid of the varnish give Lube Control a try. It totally eliminated the varnish in my BMW. By the way I have had 3 different Volvos over the years and they had lots of varnish on the internals. Seems to be a trend with these cars.

Oil evaporates and then condenses on cooler areas inside the engine where there is no oil flowing. The only way to remove it is to disassemble the engine and clean the parts in a strong solvent.

By the way, just running the Redline for 10k-15k miles probably would have cleaned up the engine without using the ARX. At least that's been my experience with Amsoil in a number of engines.

I've had good results with ARX too, not 4 consecutive treatments, not yet anyways. If the engine is performing well and you have had great results, why does it matter what it looks like under the valve cover? Don't worry, be happy.

Use quality oil, do regular maintenance of all filters and fluids and if it makes you happy, dump in a bottle of ARX every 30K miles. Who knows, maybe your machine will last 250K - 300K? The rest of the car may not last that long. What more could you ask for?

Redline for 6k in my engine didn't remove one lick of varnish, sludge, etc.

I was hoping it would....

You can run ARX on the back end of the current RL fill. After 4 cleaning applications its safe to say that the majority of the contaminants are gone. I have run 3000 miles on a cleaning dose in motors that have already been cleaned and rinsed. No problem.

save your money and do an LC soak of the ring pack thru the plug holes. ARX does nothing for combustion chamber carbon build up and a blown Volvo will always have a carbon load in the ring pack that affects performance and fuel mileage.
a coat of varnish on the non contact head metal means nothing

ARX clean stage works equally well with ester, PAO, GrpIII or straight Wolfs Head old dino bacon drippings

It's the rinse cycle that needs to be plain vanilla dino for faster more complete cleaning but syn. will eventually do the job in the rinse cycle also, just takes longer

LC20 thru the plug holes?

What about a bit of ARX?

And I shouldn't worry about using ARX with GC?
I was thinking of using it with a dino oil because I thought that cleaned better.

From what I've read, ARX works as well with full syn, just over a more extended period of time. If I'm wrong, I'd like to know. I'll just put that bottle I ordered last night into the g/f's del sol.
