I got off early from jury pool call today. It was the last day of early voting in Orleans Parish, so I drove up into the old Point area to see if I could squeeze into the courthouse to cast my ballot. The Registrar's office had warned us there'd be lines.

Nope! In the front door and through the scanner, down the hall to a little office where they checked my ID and gave me an electronic card. Then back up to the voting machine room, where I stuck in the card, made my touch-screen choices, checked and double-checked 'em (just to be sure. LA can be as bad as Cook County, IL, is reported to be about cheating), touched "Cast Your Ballot," and was done. I walked out with a "I Voted Early" sticker on my shirt pocket. If only going to the dentist could be that painless.

Any of you have serious delays/troubles with early voting, now or in the past, that makes you prefer the regular election day instead?

It's probably been 20 years since my wife or me voted "in person". We voted back on (I think) October 14th or so from our kitchen table, and then mailed in the ballots. It gave us a chance to talk about the candidates and issues, as well as research some of the obscure questions before answering the ballot questions.

In the Heart of Swampiness, aka Loozyana, they insist you give a reason why you won't be able to vote on Election Day proper. Just saying you're gonna be out of town won't cut it; they want proof. (I tried that in 2008.)

I wish they had a method for Internet voting.

I'd rather drive 1200 miles in a pontiac T1000 to vote, before I think of the ramifications of your suggestion.

I did early voting in 2008 and last week on 10/18/2010 in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2008, it only took about 5 minutes from checking my ID to casting the ballot. This year, there was a small crowd but the staff was very efficient and helpful with understanding the process of the machines. Most of the crowd was out of there in less than 15 minutes.

Scary thought indeed.

Ohio was that way until some court ruling a few years ago.

I agree 100%. I don't trust this early voting as is let alone if they do it over the internet. God help us. Absentee/early voting should be for military personel and people out of the country only. If you live here and are in country the day of voting you should have to go to the polls and vote on the day of the election. Too easy for fraud and cheating.

The best part would be doing an oil change after you came back.

Yup, no better choice than vote from home with a mail in ballot. I hate staying in line, hate it even more when there is politics involved.

Why is it scary? I can do my taxes, pay credit cards, buy stocks in blue chip firms all on the net, but u cannot vote?

In Ohio they count the absentee ballots last-then you could be the first and the last to vote!
