I usually like to start making my tire choice

a few months ahead of time to take advantage of sales, rebates and so forth. I'm thinking about putting Goodyear Assuarnce Comfort Treads on my wife's 07 Camry. It's a V-rated tire, like the oem and it comes with a 70K warranty. I realize that I won't get 70K (because I replace tires at 4-5 32nds) but mileage warranties are a good indication of relative longevity across different tires. Does anyone have any experience with this tire that would suggest that this is either a good or bad idea?

Goodyear Assurance Comfort Treads seems like a good tire but a little pricy. I would look at H-rated tires that are not so expensive. Try to get the lowest price online then ask DT to match.

Had them on my Chevy minivan. Above average ride comfort. Good handling. Low noise. Treadwear was MUCH less than the warranty. I wouldn't buy them again because the pluses were not enough to justify the HIGH price for ME. YMMV.

Thanks for the replies. Price doesn't matter much to me within reason. I'm extremely sensitive to tires that get out of round or out of true and have found that Goodyear, Pirelli and Michelin are generally best at staying in round/true. I drive her car enough that it matters to me.

The other tire that I'm considering would be the H rated Michelin Primacy which is about the same price. The car currently has a set of Primacy's and looks to get somewhere between 55-60K if I run them down to about 4/32. Between those two tires, do you have ausggestion?

Have you looked into the GY Assurance Fuel MAX tires? I've read a lot of great reviews, without the loss of traction that people know LRR tires for. They are probably less expensive than the Comfortreads, and will save fuel over the life of the tire (probably enough fuel to cover the cost of the tires).

How did you like the Primacy MXV4s on the Camry? The Goodyear comes only in the new ComforTred Touring (not the original ComforTred), and I think the performance of the new CTT is probably on-par with the Primacy MXV4s.

In our size, the Primacy MXV4 is the OEM tire on the Nissan Altima Hybrid, and carries the Green-X mark. I don't think you'll find a more well-rounded tire (pardon the pun) in this particular size. Mine's got the Energy MXV4 S8 tires on it, with about 7/32" of tread, so I'm starting to consider tire options as well. In another 3/32", they'll come off.

Hokie, I've generally liked the Primacy. My reasons for looking at the comfort treads are two: (1)the higher speed rating (V vs H) and (2) the higher stated mileage warranty. Although I don't expect to get mileage warranty miles, they are an overall indication of relative mileage potential. I like the V speed rating becaue that's what came on the car, but the V rated Primacy is more than I want to spend. Part of me says if it ain't broke don't fix it, and the Primacy definitely ain't broke. Another part of me, however, wonders if there is something out there I would like even more. Although this is my wife's car, the tire choice is definitely for me. You could put the cheapest thing Discount Tire sells on the car and she would be fine with it. The guys at Discount Tire talk the Assurance Fuel Max down which steered me away from it. BTW, it is college baseball season, best time of the year for us Gamecock fans.

DT always promotes Michelin over GY. DT must have a better annual volume deal with Michelin. I prefer the regular Comfort Treads vs. the Primacy and GYCT tourings on my punshing 02 V6 Accord. My last set of regular CTs lasted 30,000. Got a $288 pro rated credit so what do I care how long they last? Here are my ratings,on my car,on my potholed streets/highways. Best to worst... Comfort 1. Regular gyact 2.gyact touring. 3.Primacy... Road Noise 1. regular gyact 2. Primacy 3. gyac tourings... Handling 1. gyact tourings 2. Primacy 3. regular gyac. Pay your money and take your choice.

I really appreciate the responses, especially from so many people who have experience with the tires I'm considering. At this point, I'm leaning toward the GYACT. It sounds as though it was made for my wife; someone who likes a soft ride but who also corners the car aggresively in some situations.

From what I have heard, the Goodyear tires do not seem to come anywhere close to their advertised mileage warranties.

Our family's limited experience with Michelin is they deliver wear that is often near the advertised warranty.

Maybe I should stick with the Primacy. I've been pleased with the tire and will get in excess of 50K even with my propensity to pull them at 4-5/32.

Do y'all get the fact that I'm bouncing around like a ping pong ball on this one? They're just tires, afterall.

Whenever I do that (bounce around trying to score something a little bit better), I always regret the decision. Just buy the Primacys and be done with it.

My 80,000 triple treads were shot before 45k. And they really became unsafe just before 40k. I loved them when I got them, but the "love" went away within 25k miles.

Went with Michelin and so far nice tires. Performance in the snow/ice are NOT as good as the TT but acceptable. Very quiet tires.

+1 As you state price isn't a deciding factor, go with the Primacys. I've had good Michelin (but limited) Michelin experiences. Even their OEM tires are acceptable, unlike other brands where I find the OEM tires to be horrible.

Direct Tire is offering a $70 rebate on Michelins so I pulled the trigger on a new set of Primacy's for the wife's car today. The old tires had enough tread left that they gave me $60 trade-in for the old set. It was like getting one tire free. In the end, I decided that my previous experience with the Primacy was positive enough to stay with that tire. The comments that many of you made regarding Goodyear's mileage was a big factor too. Thanks again for the input.

I had Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my camry. I got 60,000 miles from that set. It was very quiet, and gave me great mileage..

Now I have BridgeStone Turanza Serenity. I am looking to get 70,000 miles.

Shucks, I was going to recommend Pirelli P4 Four Seasons. I've been impressed with them on my Buick. They are quite grippy while wearing like iron. I've gotten 70k miles out of them so far, and am likely going to get another 10k miles at least out of them before they're done. Doing a lot of highway driving helps for lifespan.

I have the P4s on my 97 Camry and like them very much. The problem for my wife's 07 is that the P4 is T-rated whereas the 07 Camry came with v rated tires. Everyihting I've heard including advice from Discount Tires is that you shouldn't drop down more than one speed rating as doing so might adversely impact handling.

I'm sure you made a good call. The harshness over road imperfections that are objectionable to me,in my Honda V6, would not be noticeable in a Camry and the Primacy's are quiet. Enjoy.
