I moved out of my parents in 2011 into an apartment for about 2 months. There were some legal issues and I had to move to another apartment that was 4 doors down. Luckily it was a studio. Was there for another year then moved to the 1BR apartment for 5 years.
Now in my house. Hopefully staying here for quite a while. Mortgage will be paid off by 40. I do like the idea of having a paid off house

Curious why you have to do it on the sly?
Many municipalities in the USA have horrible, horrible "permit fees" anytime you change, upgrade, or replace anything on your home (or property) other than the locks/doorknobs.
A friend of mine lives on the nicer side of town (which is actually in a different town and county even though it's the same village) and he has to pull a permit if he wants to change a faucet. Everything where he is requires a permit. It's nuts.

I finally think I found where we will stay for the next 50 years.
3.6 acres with a creek.
2 miles to work which is a school that my daughter will be attending
Smallest house in the area
Needs small updates to keep me busy around the house.
2200 sq ft w/ a finished 1200 sq ft walk out basement
2.5 car attached garage
I'll be building a detached 24x25 workshop
My wife will leave me if I make her move again.
I was just sitting around thinking about where we started, and where we are in life. I'm one lucky SOB.
How many times have you moved? It gets old quick!
Is this in SC? I love SC for their real estate prices and dirt cheap property taxes.
Yes, it's 1/3 of the cost for housing and 1/10 the cost of property taxes.
Lets see, moved when I was 5, then at age 22 moved to an apartment with my wife, 3 different apartments in 5 years (with a short stay at MIL house, doing house sitting), them moved into current home in 1997, plan on being here for quite some time.
