found the same issue with my BMW. I currently use 10w40 high mileage oils. It did not like mobil 1 0w40. Way too much engine noise. High ambient heat may make the difference in your case so that 10 weight functions more like 0 weight functions in cooler temps. just guessing here.

The 10w-40 grade is only available as Syntec.

Ahhh! Support!

I'm at a loss as to how the original post here is "fishy" in any way -- it's a minimalist comment on a specific oil, but is as valid as most other posts on this board, and without any "fishy" sales link to some snake oil.

I get extra engine noise out of both my Audi's if I run M1 0w-40. If I stick to GC 0w-30 then the engines are smooth and quiet. I live in a northern climate so not dealing with the extreme heat, but it is 90F this weekend and they are still quiet on the the GC.

Your post could elborate a little without having us having to use the BITOG crystal ball.

The post made me think the same thing what is point and what do you require in terms of support or comment.

Perhaps on your next post you can guide the forum in the direction and the needs to be addressed.

It could be 120, oil is going to perfrom good!
I live in Alabama and in July and August temperature can reach 110 easily with unbearable humidity!
Humidity+heat is worse then Nevada heat and no humidity. Still, i was using GC on my Passat 1.8T and now I put GC after M1 0W40 in CC 2.oTSI.
M1 did perfect job. Although 2.0T has those dilution problems after 5.500 miles you could not smell gas in poil and oil still had its color, while oil that was in the car before I put M1, Castrol 5W30 SLX lost its color after 1500 miles and turned black with gas odor.
GC is smoother, on 1.8T that is more then obvious, but also on CC. That does not mean that M1 is not doing its job.
It does not matter in which climate in the U.S. you live, GC or M1 0W40 is aleays suitable bcs here unlike on German roads, you can never use full potential of your car, unless you go to track, but the, buy Motul 5W40 racing.

Seems to be a common issue. Many people have subjective complaints about noise or idle "smoothness" with M1 0W-40 in this engine. Objectively, the GC 0W-30 consistently delivers better fuel mileage than M1 0W-40 in my 1.8T.

None of that means M1 0W-40 is bad. In fact, it's a great oil both on paper and from the UOAs posted.

I had Passat 1.8T and used GC. I knew to run 8k sometimes 10k on that oil Never any knock noise from valvetrain. If you use Syntec 5W40, after 4k noise comes up.
So GC for 1.8T is PERFECT oil.
Now in CC I used once M1 0W40. No issues at all. Right now, I have GC in CC and behaves little better then M1. It is just bit quiter and more responsive. However, it is also thiner oil then M1 so that is why I think it is more responsive. Will see how it behaves, f everything is OK, will keep GC, if not, switching back to M1.
M1 and GC are probably two best oils you can get from the shelf.

Used to use GC, but now use the new formulation of M1 0w-40 in my 30v. It seems to be very smooth and quite. I like how M1 seems to keep things cleaner than other oils.

castrol syntec is a fake group III synthetic, use a real group IV amsoil 10-30 or group V redline 10-30, kept my not stock vw 1.8T happy until i traded to audi TT 1.8T at 199,xxx miles

Group III is not fake synthetic. That is a very old argument that is very skewed. We've discussed it in depth here...
