I need help figuring out a/c pilot inserts for r4 compressor

I am replacing the a/c compressor on my 1984 w123. I am at the stage of installing the new compressor. I have figured out i need the green sealing ring on the discharge size and the gold sealing ring on the suction side. The issue I am having is matching up my hose block to the hose blocks listed on the sheet. My hose block is like block number 2 accept I have one pilot on my hose block already installed on the discharge side. Should I put any pilot on the suction side? When I try and place the small pilot on the suction side It basically goes all the way into the metal tube and very little sticks out. The large pilot would seem much more appropriate on the suction side but it does not list to do that on the sheet. The old compressor used o rings instead on these sealing washers.

It looks like you have a step face compressor as the two ports are different heights. It will not fit on a flat manifold block. I think GM introduced the step compressor for factory R-134a systems to discourage mixing of parts-- at least until third parties came up with special thick adapter seals.

Seems like all you get today are the stepped port versions. Also heard that the metal washer rubber sealing ring works better than the o-ring with the diesels vibration.

I appreciate i'm reviving an old thread here, but I'm about to carry out this same job and wondering what the end result was? I have the same hose block face which doesn't match any of the diagrams.
Maybe I'll work it out when all the parts arrive but i'd like to pr-order anything I might need.

Did you work out what seals and pilots were needed for the suction line?

I just did this on my gmc typhoon I just used the gold and the green check out this video .

Thanks 1blkc5, so you didn't use any of the pilots that came with the seal/washer kit?
As per joegreen, my setup doesn't match the instruction sheet and my pilots don't fit the suction port (the short pilot pretty much sits flush in the suction side) only the long pilot would be of use with the gold washer.

No pilots make sure its sitting flush if not you may have too use the pilots and make sure you torque it .
