Is this reasonable or rational?

I have a stash of about 50 quarts of Valvoline Synpower (Rebates, both Valvoline and Kragen came through so the oil was free), 40 quarts of GC and a case and a half of Redline from OG @$8.00 per ([censored] of a deal). I do not need any more oil as there will not be an oil change performed on any of the three vehicles for some time. However, I just went out and ordered two more cases of Redline from OG because I could not pass up the price. My point being: why the [censored] do I keep buying more oil when I have enough to last the three vehicles over 5 years? I suppose that I am not alone.....

Did you take advantage of the OG 10% off one day sale yesterday on the Redline oil?? I had to delete that e-mail with the promo code immediatly in order not to order some, as I already have over 4 cases I got from them a few months ago- Geez I had a hard time resisting ordering another half a dozen cases!!!!!

My GF tells me that also, even though she has had the leaky oil filter syndrome from Iffy Lube. Yes she has now been assimilated to the BITOG way.

I do the same. When AZ was selling the Superfo for $4.99 (5 qt jug), I had to clean them out. I have enough oil and filters for about 8 years.

I expect the price of goods - including oil - to go up faster than our salaries. You are wise to buy during the sales, and you'll have this oil when you need it. You won't have to rush out to pay full price for your oil changes.

I have 200 qts and I think this is reasonable and rational for the 5-6 people who's car I service. I just wish we had the deals you found here in Michigan.

Nah, get a good deal and you can then be generous w/others as well as picky w/your own ride. Contradictory ends, both met by the cheap stash.

"Hi, my name is John Doe, and I have an oil buying problem. It all started when I started hanging out on BITOG."

Hey, you are NORMAL. Do NOT believe what the other part of society tells you! We are all in this together!

Hey guys, if this gets to the point where its causing you problems (or family strife if your wife complains about how much room its taking), I'd be willing to help you out.

Just let me know and I'll supply you my mailing address.

You can mail me all the extra thats getting in your way.

i would do the same thing if i could find those deals.

i have a good amount of oil, but If i came across a deal, something in me makes me have to do it. No murrays, schucks, cotsco etc.. around these parts

Like Saturn_Fan ( i believe) said a while ago:

I know I have a problem, but I dont want any help!

I just told my co-workers and they all ask me to buy them when I see the good deals. Satisfy my deal hunting need and their wallet, and build up good relationships at work.

It gets worse. I kept buying oil that I did not need, then would sell it off at cost and buy more oil that I did not need. Eventually I got my stash to a more managable size (from over 200 to current 165 qts). I also have several co-workers that think I am a wonderful guy for the oil deals they got--we're talking $2 synthetic, and good stuff like Pennzoil and Synpower.

Things went from a bit of stashing GC to $1-$2q Mobil 1 0w30 to 80 gallons of Delo 30 for $1/g and the PP 1st driver madness to a bunch of blended oils under $2 and closeout Havoline DS 5w-20 for $1/q. Last gig was about 10G of GTX 10w30 for $1/g. A good dealie was Rotella 30 gallons for $1 that I returned to WalMart for full credit. I couldn't really use it with all the Delo 30anyway!

I'll still buy if I see something I want. I don't have any HM oils.

When the bottom shelf of the cabinet fills up in the garage I just stop buying. This is about 50 quarts. Short of being absolutely free, I don't go for any more oil deals until some space in the cabinet opens up. Just create a limit for yourself and you'll be OK.
