I just ordered some Wix oil filters.

From what I can remember from the "old days", Purolator were better than Wix because they had the synthetic media, but Wix and Napa Gold were still good.

Neigh!

In the old days, I used to buy the OEM brand filters for my vehicles (Motorcraft for Ford, Honda for Honda, Kubota for Kubota, etc.). Wix used to be a decent brand for nearly everything. NAPA if you felt like spending money, and private label brands for premium prices at discount quality. Fram was the orange can of death and to be avoided at all cost.

WHAT HAPPENED?????

What do us old-timers do now? Apparently the stock of Wix and Motorcraft filters I have are junk. What are the good brands to use? From reading some posts here, the following are recommended (please correct me if I'm wrong):
- Fram XP
- Purolator
- Micro Guard
- Baldwin

What other brands are trustworthy? Not a lot of options here...

A quick search will bring up plenty of these up.

It's Wix XP, not Fram XP.

The MicroGard Select and the Carquest Premium are basically the same filter (both under Premium Guard umbrella). If you have an Advance Auto Parts or an O'Reilly you can find them there. Or you can get the Fermium Guard Extended Life use filter on Amazon. All basically the same filter in different cans. STP XL Extended Life filters are also a Premium Guard in an STP can.

I’ve had 3 bad Wix oil filters in a row. Being a high mileage driver, I change my oil and filter 8-10 times per year. I’ve used WL 10255 for my GMC Sierra 5.3L several years now. The last 3 oil changes, the oil filter started leaking within 500 miles. I switched to Purolator last couple of times and no leaks.
