I hit a deer

In the wee hours of Friday morning I was out on the highway, just driving and minding my own business and such. There was hardly a vehicle on the road except for a few 18-wheelers. Then, all of a sudden, I saw a deer on the left side of the road. All I saw was it's head and eye, didn't get a chance to see the rest of it. Within just a second of seeing the deer, BAM, I clobbered it. All I had time to do was loudly shout and slam on the brakes. I was doing 65 mph at the time and I doubt I had any time to slow down at all before I hit the deer. I didn't hit it straight on, all the damage was along the left side of the car. I really should have walked back to see if the poor ol' deer was laying on the ground or if it ran off, but I was more concerned with my car at the time. There wasn't a lot of damage thankfully, although it did totally shatter my left front fender and took out the driver's outside mirror. I just checked the car, made sure nothing was leaking or severly damaged then just drove away. I've already got the fender replaced, now I just need to find a decent, non-broken mirror. Here's some pics:

A close second would be: "What did my car look like before?"

Good to hear you made out of that scrape alive ol' chap! Tell me though, where you under the influence of energy drinks? Was your blood polluted with saturated fat from that fast food bag or was that from an American passenger who rode with you earlier that day who left their luggage?

Tell me it's the latter!

And is that a Maine Coon?

A couple of years ago, I missed a large whitetail by inches at 70mph. It ran across a 4-lane highway, and just BARELY made it between me and the car ahead of me. Had I hit that deer, the aftermath would have been BAD!

Deer are the main reason why, when riding my road bike during hunting season, I always descend the mountain roads slowly. On more than one occasion, I've had close calls with deer....and squirells, and wild turkey, and dogs.

Anyway, glad you're OK. Hope you get your car all fixed up soon.

There have been a lot of saturn wrecks that do in that wiring harness you see in the fender. An un-fun way to spend the weekend would be fixing that mess.

I was thinking..."The buck stops here!" My brother in laws friend was recently killed when a deer entered the path of his motorcycle so I am not making light of your situation. I could have been much worse.
